Just got the call from Robar that my 1911 is all done and ready for pickup. Will try to post photos in a few hours.

Now I'm thinking:

I'm not really that greatly concerned about home defense (or I'd have bought a gun years ago).

Mainly, I've got the bug to buy a real nice pistol because I admire fine craftsmanship.

Also, I'd want to shoot it, a lot (and don't want to spend a lot of money on ammo).

So maybe I should look into a real Gucci looking .22 that I'll appreciate as a piece of sculpture as well as shooting it for fun.

I'm really sorry I sold my last gun, a Marlin straight stock lever action .22 rifle. I really miss looking at it almost as much as I enjoyed plinking with it .

Carlsbad. There's a Turner's about 10 mi. inland from me in San Marcos. Think I'll stop in.

Thanks!

How is the stopping power of 9mm relative to the .38?
As well the US Military have just put out a notice that they want to return to the .45 ACP round again. The 9mm that they accepted when they dumped the 1911 .45 just has not worked and it only took 20 years for them to figure this out.

Nothing wrong with a good working 1911 and a shotgun for home defence.

Sorry, mine's not for sale... It's an old "made in Belgium" model and it functions well...despite it's holding "only" 13 rounds, I wouldn't trade it for a Glok...

Rick, That's a damn fine sharpie holder you got there. Darisc, do you want art or equiment? To determine the tool you must define the mission. There's no "one size fits all" gun. A Colt Python may be a good (albeit pricey) solution to you art needs, I'm thinking blued, NIB condition 4" bbl.. But... If i'm in a gunfight, the last thing I want to see in my opponent's hand is a short barreled shotgun.

And the first thing I want to see in my hand? ANY gun....beats hell out of calling the cops and waiting for a response.

O.k. guys, I guess I'll have to throw in a "favorite hand gun picture" as well. Nothing beats the ol' Peacemaker for aesthetic beauty. If you want a sidearm you can admire as well as shoot, there is none better (in my book). Of course, I'm biased. I grew up shooting these with my dad and uncles. I have killed antelope in Wyoming and large mule deer here in Washington (along with numerous coyotes, rock chucks, and ground squirrels) with this one; it shoots quite well and with more than enough power for those jobs. I am actually quite comfortable with the thought of defending myself with one if need be, as odd as that may sound. I'm as apt to carry one (when I can hide is sufficiently) as my vastly more modern 1911.

I'd like to read more about the U.S. military's RFP for .45 ACP sidearms. The Berettas were due to NATO ammo uniformity. We're still in NATO and they still use 9mm mostly. So I'd be real curious to see what we end up going with. I highly doubt it will be another 1911. SIG's are mostly made in Exeter, NH now and they are easier to field strip and better out of the box than 1911's. I'll be curious to see this.

A Sig Mosquito will fit that bill. Not sure where you are located, but Nostatic can let you shoot his. And the ammo is CHEAP!

Hey thanks, Red beard! I'm right down the coast from Nostatic, in Carlsbad. I'll consider contacting him.
