Became a fan, then almost immediately thereafter got a random friend request from some woman in Russia. Don't know if the 2 actions have any connection or are just a coincidence. Anyone else have a similar occurrence?

Gotta get some graphics in there, some information about the business, contact info, and get the announcements on the site (sales, new items etc) to the fans on facebook!

Unique visitors doesn't mean users. I'm sure that also tracks twitter plugins and web interfaces and such too. It's growing fer sure, but still doesn't apply to all net users. I've been online since it was available and I have no use for twitter. It's constricting, and petty. It's just another path for communication, that's all.
For instance, does Pelican have a need for a twitter feed? What would be gained by it? At least Facebook and MySpace have a blogging feature with full posting capabilities that can get messages out, images, stories, and even advertisements out in full english so that anyone can understand it, even passerbys. 140characters does not work on a sales model. |

Did you see what I responded to? No need to get emotional. Simply put Twitter is not going away anytime soon. As for sales platform, there are plenty of companies using it. I subscribe to Karl Rove's acct. He is constantly selling himself. It may seem useless to you, but plenty of people are using and subscribing to it. As for PP, I have no idea how far their aspirations go with their company. Some companies use it though.

There are many companies, like Dell, that give exclusive discounts via twitter. Woot.com has almost 400,000 followers on twitter and regularly posts great deals on all sorts of items. They often sell out of those items too - twitter does work for businesses. The business model has already been established - Wayne could post a deal a week on a twitter account and get lots more eyes on his site as well as move a bunch of product. Plus, you people who don't use Facebook much (like me) can use other services that you may use more frequently to automatically post to Facebook. Check out twitpic, posterous and friendfeed. |

Treating one medium over another is dangerous. Woot also offers their products on their website too daily. I'm saying that exclusively having Pelican on Twitter or exclusively on Facebook is not effective for the reason you gave - some people don't use that medium. Spreading any sales/ads around the web should be done on any media available. I disagree bigtime with only offering a sale, say, through twitter, or through facebook only. Maybe to get potential new viewers who use Twitter to the website, offer first time purchase discounts or something. But use all avenues possible equally. I think that's why he chose Facebook (with its 200 Million users) to get a potential new audience through how Facebook shares its activity amongst friends. Good idea.

Done. I agree with Kurt. Twitter is better depending on who you "follow". For instance one guy I follow is always cracking jokes. Makes a dark a little brighter occasionally.
