3-1 Detroit Red Wings take Game One.
Series 1-0 Detroit. Game 2 in less than 24 hours (first back to back games in SC finals in over 50 years btw) Crosby shows his "class" going after Maltby as the team filed out to shake Osgood's hand. |

Fleury scored two for the Wings.

Missed Crosby going after Maltby. Turned off the game right after. Fleury was being aggresive. Hopefully he'll settle down. (At least he didn't trip coming onto the ice like last year). It will be interesting to see who has the legs this evening.
Curious... Has the Lombardi & Stanley Cup resided in the same city in the same seaon? Can't think of anytime. GO PENS!!

Crosby just gave Maltby a little whack with his stick on Maltbys legs as Maltby skated by with the team to congratulate Osgood at the end of the game. Crosby said later that "Maltby was doing his usual thing talking...so I gave him a whack at the end of the game"...
actually that is good news for the Red Wings, that Maltby is already getting under Crosby's grill frustrating him... we will see if that changes tonight if Crosby comes out and plays well. |

Tonight is the first time in almost 50 years that there will be a finals game on back to back nights. This will be the true test of the Wings health and energy.
I remember Bobby Orr (yeah I'm an old-timer) tripping over his own feet as he entered the ice to the All Star game. They had just finished talking about his grace balance and speed on skates.

Crosby showed another reason why I can't stand hearing him compared to Gretzky. He has no class. All the talent in the world, just no class.
I am hoping for another Red Wing win tonight. Bill |

Fleury CANNOT let in a goal like the third one in the SCF. Pitt had a ton of chances that are usually goals with their group. 3 posts on point blank shots, Crosby has a semi-breakaway and shoots the puck into Zetterberg (rather than open net) in the third. they need to keep generating the same chances--eventually they will go in.
Det just a deep team with smarts that can grind out/manufacture wins. Pitt must sweep at home or it will get late awful early out there. A.B. |

Wow. Watch this clip of Malkin taking a cheap shot on Zetterberg...hitting him twice over the head with his stick....drawing an 'instigator' penalty which carries an AUTOMATIC suspension from the NHL....
Of course...the NHL, being the wimpy corrupt league that it is... came out already and said that the star Malkin wouldnt be suspended. Ha ha....what a bunch of crap. Why even have rules if they dont apply to the so called stars? |

3posts and a soft goal. Yup need to sweep at home. The puck is certainly taking red bounces.

Malkin is a goon. just kidding, he is not.... but it was dangerous him swinging that stick around at Zetterberg's head like an old woman swinging her purse at a mugger. Zetterberg could have been seriously hurt if that stick had hit him in the eyes or something. It appeared that Malkin instigated by going after Zetterberg out of frustration and to "send a message" which is the intent of that rule, so if the NHL is going to have rules, then they should enforce them for everyone! Otherwise, get rid of the rule.... Regarding the bounces on the ice.... Ive seen quite a few games at the Joe and in June, typically when it warms up the ice gets a bit choppy and slow. I noticed several odd bounces in games 1 and 2 that may have been due to this, also several players stumbling and losing their edges faster than normal could have been due to the ice being slightly warmer and not quite as sharp. Toss in the boards and you have some funny bounces going around.

Well it's do or die for the Pens. They need a better performance from Crosby & Fluery. And as much as they need that Lady Luck has also got to shine a bit for them, (or at least not wear red
)GO PENS!!!!!!!!

1) 21 seconds with 6 players and Fleury on the ice without a penalty.
2) 3 shots that rang the pipes behind Fleury. Lady luck showed up with her twin sister and her best friend.

Me thinks Ozzie caught a break with a post from Talbot tonight and the past two games have been post central going against the Pens--breaks are evening out a bit (finally)--congrats to Pitt for grinding one out against the Wings tonight.

Posts are overrated...unless the goalie is clearly beat on the play, most of the time a post results in a Goalie taking away the shooters angle and effectively "making the save" with the post. That goes for both Fluerry and Osgood, to my eyes the posts tonight were good goaltending and not necessarily lucky.
The 6 man on the ice for 21 seconds was inexcusable by the refs..... what if Pitt had scored on that play? damn straight they would have counted that goal.... too many non-calls in this series... lots of stuff not getting called, like the Pitt D man whacking Holmstrom in the face. The problem with the non calls, is that when they do finally call something...it is a very dramatic event... turns a normal power play in to 'the game decider' because there are not enough calls being made. These refs suck. |
