Now a 72 Year Old Woman tazed
A 72 year old woman was tazed by a officer twice her size. Just keeps coming.
The Travis County Constable's Office Precinct 3 Tuesday released the dashboard camera video of a questionable traffic stop on Highway 71. The question is, did the deputy go too far in getting the 72-year-old woman to comply or did her actions along a dangerous stretch of highway warranted her being tasered? http://www.txcn.com/sharedcontent/dws/txcn/austin/stories/060909kvue_Taser_woman-cb.64ccc02d.html

After watching the news report... two thoughts
1) the sergeant in the video being interviewed (who was not the officer who used the taser) came off as a TOTAL D-BAG. Congratulations sir. 2) After watching the dash cam video though.. it was a pretty dangerous area to be pulled over and to have the lady not complying and putting herself and the officer in danger because she wouldn't stand in an appropriate spot on the road, and then refusing to comply more and more... well.. you gotta do something. The problem here is her age- tasing a 72 year old woman seems really harsh. If it was a 38 year old male then I doubt there would be anyone objecting. The fact of the matter is she was not complying and potentially putting herself in a more dangerous situation. I'm not 100% on this one but it doesn't seem like to bad of a call. I think if anything the officer could have been more calm and calmed her down which would have avoided the use of the taser, but I agree tasing her was better than using more physical force, which may have ended up with her running into oncoming traffic. Interested in the PPOT wisdom on this one.

I have no problem with his actions, 72 YO was stupid. All she had to do was follow his instructions and she chose to be an idiot.

\begin sarcasm Yes. It doesn't really matter that using a tazer could have serious effects on the wrong person. They should be used for everyone regardless of the infraction. After all it is vitally important that the officer's have absolute compliance at traffic stops. \end sarcasm
Gone are the days when officers were expected to have any sensitivity or judgment.

Outcome is avoided with the use of four words, "Don't taze me, bro!"

I haven't watched the video, but when a cop asks you to do something, just do it, and you won't have problems. If someone refuses, what's the cop supposed to do, back down, let folks do what they want? It's going to end in an arm bar or tazing or beating with a stick. I'm guessing that anything with a 72yo is risky. Arm bar risks broken bones, but I suspect less likely. Tazing risks heart attack. Just don't put yourself in the position for the cop to be considering his options and you won't have a problem.

Odd policy that you get arrested for refusing to sign the ticket. Here the officer just writes "refused to sign" on the ticket and sends the person on their way.

I've watched the vid. She was lucky she was only tased.
That kind of arrogant attitude (that she has passed to all of her kids and grandkids) is exactly the 'sense of entitlement' that gets people shot on the side of the road by an officer that has no idea what kind of idiot he is dealing with. |

You'd think that someone who has been around 72 years would have a clue by now, obviously that isn't the case with her.
She asked for it and she got it. This one's on her. |

Pair of morons. One has a tazer.
Shortly after the stupid woman exits the truck she says, "OK, I'll sign the #$%&ing thing." Should have been done right there. Had the officer responded with "Thank you, ma'am." There would have been no need for a tazer.

awesome! i agree with moses. it was a perfect storm of idiots.
someone with a blue camaro once robbed (armed) a store. my friend and i got pulled over in my blue camaro. i was practically dragged out, and was asked to put my hands on the hood. friend opposite side of hood. cops said, "dont move, any movement, and we will assume you mean....(it trailed off from there)" i think i didnt want him to see my ear-bones twitch. i FROZE! the cop had to put his hand on my shoulder to get me to move after that. even after the "ok", i just stayed frozen. the seriousness of his voice and the way they went thru my car..i just knew..dont move dumbas. they never apologized. we got the "move along".

Older adults CAN be stubborn:
My mother (who was in her 70's at the time) was stopped for running a red light on a residential street in town. She says it was actually yellow and turned red as she was halfway through the intersection, anyway... the 'young' officer writes her up and while standing beside her car, asks: "What kind of car is this?" Response: "You mean to tell me they let you be a policeman and you can't tell one car from another?

She had it coming. The officer's requests for compliance were perfectly reasonable, delivered calmly, and completely ignored. Nine times.
If a 72 year old woman expects to be treated with the respect she feels is due her age, she first has to act her age. It's o.k. to let the guy have her opinion on the matter, but she does have to comply with his instructions. I suspect from the strength of her reaction that she felt she did nothing wrong, i.e. she was not speeding. Believe me, I fully sympathize with her feelings of helplessness, if that is indeed what was happening. It's a no-win situation for the citizen these days when ticketed. As more and more come to realize the fact that we are now denied due process, and that the police have no burden of proof whatsoever in court, frustration will continue to mount. More and more traffic stops will turn in this direction as more and more citizens get ensnared in this un-Constitutional little revenue scheme. That said, I don't think this was the case with this woman. I think she is just a cranky old bytch.

I did not watch the link again, as I saw it on a local station. THEN, they had a young reporter interviewing her @ her home....She was holding the Police report and yelling "Lies, Lies, Lies"....THEN....the video was released and she declined further comment.
"Hey you old bag, want some more"? This time, she might have wished she had been run over by the reindeer instead. ![]()
