The UV side and also, as a buffer in case you drop the lens and it hits on that side. Most likely the lens glass will be okay, but the UV will be a goner.

The kit lens that I use happens to be sharper than one of my dads good lenses, so much co, that he replace his lens. The glass in kit lenses should be fine. They just usually lack all the bells and whistles.

Noise, not grain... Noise is produced by digital cameras, grain is a film artifact... That aside, Lenses don't cause noise, they can't. Noise is due to ISO settings. The higher the ISO, the more noise that will show.

A good filter to get is the circular polarizer.. Though, they can only be used 90* perpendicular to the sun. A variable neutral density filter is good too... But it won't increase "color" or saturation.

The lens I am shooting with is a 35-80mm 1:4-5.6 It is what came with the camera. I just never have loved it. I need to pick up new glass, but I'm not sure if it is worth buying new glass for a fairly old body. Basically what it boils down to, is I'm not sure if I want to stick with cannon. Right now it wouldn't be much of a setback to switch to a Nikon setup.

I think Nikons are only better on the high end. For my price range Cannons can be just as good.

As dave mentions... We literally shoot off the back porch at times here....

Yes there are benefits, I'm just not sure if I could live there. Maybe in the more rural areas, I'm not a city boy.

It just would depend on how good the job offer was out there. ;)

Flieger 11-15-2011 09:36 PM

SLO has some pretty rural areas. Nothing compared to OK I would imagine but Cal Poly has a whole college devoted to agriculture if that says anything.

slodave 11-15-2011 09:42 PM

I used to go out with a couple friends around SLO and shoot. There is some BLM land close by.

Sidney, if you moved to a big city, any big city, you'd have to give up some of you gun access. It's just not possible to shoot in the backyard, in the city. I'm sure that's the case with Oklahoma City.

porsche4life 11-15-2011 09:57 PM

I know, but like I said, I'm not a city boy. I don't like just having to travel in OKC. I'm gunna be so screwed having to relocate to houston for 7 months next year..

slodave 11-15-2011 10:00 PM

We have your small town life as well, right down to the red leaning tendencies.. COL would be pretty much on par with what you are used to as well. But if you do that, you might as well stay in Ok., because it'll look and smell exactly the same.

Dave, I think you should get some funds from the California board of tourism. Just no stupid commercials with Kim Karadashian.

porsche4life 11-15-2011 10:08 PM

I think dave would look good opposite Kim K. ;)

Flieger 11-15-2011 10:10 PM

I like most of the other girls in the commercials better than her.

Flieger 11-15-2011 10:11 PM

I do not even know why she is famous other than being slutty.

porsche4life 11-15-2011 10:12 PM

Whats wrong with slutty?

I do what I can. :D

Flieger 11-15-2011 10:13 PM

Well, maybe if she would start post-slutting.

slodave 11-15-2011 10:14 PM

I don't think Kim is slutty at all! Just wayyyyy out of our leagues.

porsche4life 11-15-2011 10:20 PM

Speak for yourself hippy boy.

slodave 11-15-2011 10:26 PM

Okay, Okie!
