The guy in Wichita KS, with the 600hp 928GTS stroker told me his parts bill was $35K, total was $60K.

There is a limit to what the clutch, torque tube, transmission, and half-shafts can take. I understand the limit of the stock drive train is the main gear shaft in the transmission @ 500 ftlb at the crank.

The nice thing about the 928 is that V8 has so much low end torque that gearing is not an issue. :)
I can actually get a better lap time taking corners in a higher gear because I can power steer through corner exit (carry the 4 wheel drift out of the corner) without having to upshift until the car is going straight.

painting sucks. i am finally finishing off a skylight. what a PITA.

We got rid of our skylights... They had been leaking a little, and then a hail storm took them out. Decided that was that, and had them removed when the roof was redone.

Almost Friday!

My MIL has several skylights at her house. They don't leak and it amazing how bright the house is during the day with the electric lights off.

We had a nice skylight in the living room at our old house. It was OK except in the winter when the COLD air dropped in from it.

this one is in the short hallway connecting the bathroom, front room, bedroom, and master bedroom. it is not really a hallway at all, just a crossroads, so to speak. the cold air is a problem. my plan is to finish painting and then close off the opening at the ceiling with a two layer panel of frosted plexiglass, sealed at the edges between the layers. we get the light, but not the cold (in the winter) nor the heat (in the summer).

GH85Carrera 02-23-2012 01:56 PM

All of my MIL's skylights have a plexigless cover. You likely don't want to seal it up too tight. She tried that and ended up with a few dead bugs and some condensation. You need a removable piece of plexi for cleaning.

see, i thought if you shortened the ring an pinion, it would keep you in boost (effectively shortening all the gears), but then you have problems with first, because it is TOO short, so get a taller first.... should be cheaper and effective. but i know next to nothing about transmissions, so i am sure i am bolloxed in my thinking. perhaps someone would like to educate me.

It will make a change, D.
However it wont make the gears closer , thats what I need.
I need close ratio, not low ratio. :)

porsche4life 02-23-2012 02:27 PM

Just got the list of towns for my internship... Will start in Brookings, SD and then go to Houston for a bit. Then I will be in Dallas, TX, San Antonio, TX, OKC, Little Rock, AR, and New Orleans, LA.... Not sure the order or time on those.

Evening Y'all

nynor 02-23-2012 03:15 PM

back to the gear ratios.... yeah i am dense....

if the gear ratios are lowered, don't they get closer, too?

Rick V 02-23-2012 03:16 PM

No they just run out faster, and lower the top end

nynor 02-23-2012 03:34 PM

wasn't he lowering the top end anyway?

Rick V 02-23-2012 03:41 PM

Yes but by lowering the ring gear you lower all 4 of them. Vas wanted to leave the factory first. If he lowers the ring gear, first will be useless, there will be no way to get traction. It will essentially become an granny gear.
By changing the gears in the trans you can select the ratios that work best for the type of driving. Vas was looking to make a close ration 4spd.

vas930 02-23-2012 03:41 PM

Yes , but the main aim is for closer ratios.
