Rick V 02-23-2012 03:51 PM

Yeah, all about money and time, seems I am slack on both

vas930 02-23-2012 03:54 PM

Rick, thats an easy fix.
Get more money and work less.

Morning all.

Bloody Cattle did manage to scare the crap out of me again on th e way home last night.

How'd the house hunting go today Rick?

Rick V 02-23-2012 04:05 PM

Evening Jeff. I am going sunday to look at a little house we kinda like.
Okay I know I live in the country but it is still semi residential. I was just out on the porch enjoying the nice evening when a black bear meandered through my yard.

Yes but by lowering the ring gear you lower all 4 of them. Vas wanted to leave the factory first. If he lowers the ring gear, first will be useless, there will be no way to get traction. It will essentially become an granny gear.
By changing the gears in the trans you can select the ratios that work best for the type of driving. Vas was looking to make a close ration 4spd.

right. so, lower them all, they become closer. but, make 1st taller.

The object of the excersize was to leave 1st alone and lower the other 3

nynor 02-23-2012 04:12 PM

bah!!!! the end effect is the same! 1st is as tall as before, relative to the rest of the gears, and the remainder are closer.

No but the AR is out of storage and doing duty by the door. I just hope there is no baby bear around, Mama bears get mean when babies are close. Other then that I hope to see it again, they are fun to watch

No if you change the gears in the differential first becomes useless and even though they run out faster they don't get any closer.
There are two sets of gears in this trans. The ones you can shift and the final drive gears in the differential.

Good luck with the house. Hope it ticks enough boxes for you.

A bear! That would have been interesting. Does that happen often?

We get wildlife around us at times but it really is a rare event (except snakes). The place before the last one was on the outsides of the town - always had Kangaroos in my yard eating my lawn.

Rick V 02-23-2012 04:18 PM

Not too often but from time to time. We also have wild cats and some coyotes

vas930 02-23-2012 04:18 PM

D, I want to have 1st as it is.
Lower 2nd to make it closer to 1st.
Lower 3rd to make it closer to 2nd
Lower 4th to make it closer to 3rd.

This will keep me on boost between the gears as the stock gaps are to big.
The end result is a close ratio box with a bit less top speed.
I dont need 280kph.
