Evening Y'all
I am not going to become a regular whiner about my job.
Today was absolutely beautiful 85, low humidity, not a cloud in the sky, we are going to pay for it later this week with triple digit temps, with dew points in the upper 70's

When the trash truck landed it was in someones living room. Brake failure is what the driver is claiming but with air brakes I find that hard to believe. He bailed out midway down the hill and watched the truck sail. What an ass.

OK, I googled the phrase:

come on dad, give me the car tonight. i got this girl. i wanna....

Google came up with a song that sounds like something I have no interest in. Is that the tie in to me driving home from work to grab a cold beer?

I don't understand the connection.

So Rick, was anyone hurt in the house he hit? I don't know a lot about air brakes but as I understand their failure mode is lockup. Unless all the brake linings came off all at once it would seem hard to have brake failure with air brakes.

you probably don't want to hear the song. but the lyrics are funny, there is mention of booze (or some such), and you did say "speaking of driving", which is straight out of the lyrics. for the record, my father HATED the violent femmes. in fact, he told me that i needed to throw the CD away. he left it at that. i bought and still have everything they produced. good times.

rick, so why would the guy bail from the truck midway down the hill? and edumacate me a bit on air brakes - why would air brakes obviate such a failure? (i am not being an arse, i really don't know how they work....)

No one was home and other than a couple of broken toes from the passenger no injuries. If the foot valve failed the brakes would fail but the parking brake over ride switch will do a rapid dump and lock up the rear brakes. Something doesn't sound right. The NTSB is crawling all over our property, looking at the truck. They are a bunch of asses

I have never heard of that band until this conversation. I have no interest in ever hearing them.

The natural resting position for air brakes is full lock, the application of air causes them to release. When you step on the brake pedal you remove the air from the brakes and they apply. So the only way to lose brakes is if the foot valve fails. The parking brake is a completely separate function of the rear brakes, it has a pull/push knob that either removes or applies air to the rear brakes. If that is pulled the rear brakes will lock up, and bloody fast. The driver never applied the parking brake, it is impossible for a total system failure.

No but they are one of our customers. We did the brakes in the truck back in feb. I just inspected it last month. The dust sniffing yahoo's started grilling me about it. I was like."Hey butt munch, do you have any idea how many vehicles I inspect? You expect me to remember one from a month ago?" He was then promptly told to Get the ***** away from me.

well, with the exception of van halen, we have some really good common ground. i deviate from that norm with punk rock. and lots of it. i'll even listen VH, if i have to. LZ and RS are on my Zune, but i like ZZT and LS all the time.
