Man I can't sleep. Must be all this caffeine. Two papers due 12 hours from now.


Story time.
I had to take an undergrad class this semester to appease some degree requirements, some humanities course entitled 'Speech and Media systems' or something like that. I'm the oldest guy in this class that I believe consists of a lot of undergrad freshman/sophomores. Guy teaching in is cool as hell, 65 years old, always talking about his party days and whatnot. So in this class, throughout the semester we have to give presentations and what not and are judged on them. For the first assignment, everyone had to get up in from of the class (maybe 35 people) and tell a story about an experience they've had. Anything goes.

So this old professor teaching is a fun guy and everyone knows he's a drinker and what not... so all these young kids (who all seem to be under 21 anyways) get up and tell your typical "when I was in high school me and my friends snuck some 'beers from my dad and got drunk and did ...."... It was just an icebreaker story to see how well you spoke in front of people. I found no amusement in any of the stories. I couldn't remember last week, let alone anything from high school, so I wasn't going down that path.



Instead I get up and break into the story I think I told once on this board about my friend Matt going to Belize. Only exaggerated. And in the first person (me). I told the **** out of this story. I'm talking vivid descriptions.. as if this was some giant rehearsed dialogue from a film. People were on the edge of their seats. It was almost entirely fabricated from pieces of stories, all mashed together in this one giant Hunter S. Thompson monologue.

I was greeted with a near unanimous standing ovation at the end of the 8-minute long epic. I felt bad for the people who had to go after me as those **** high school stories wouldn't hold a candle to the **** I had just pulled out of my ass.

We had to schedule a time to go back and watch a video of our 'performance'... to spot troubles in our speaking structure and what not. I was told that my story was of the most amazing things to be spoken in the 20 years of the class.


I would have gotten the DV tape from the professor and uploaded it to Youtube.. but unfortunately the microphone wasn't the best quality and the audio doesn't come across well at some parts.

Here's the 4-minute abridged version, not the 8 minute version I told in class. I don't have that one typed out. I've added a bit to this from the last time I posted it.. theres a few extra details. This is a true story mind you.

"...So I went on a cruise when I was... eh I was around 17 with my family. My mother, my father, myself, and my sister. It was a holiday thing, we used to go on family vacations every year so we take this cruise. 9 days through the Gulf of Mexico. It started off pretty awesome, just island hopping for a few days. Eventually we wind up docking one night at 11PM in a port on the coast of Belize. The ship was just in port to get supplies, and was going to be leaving for an island the next morning at 7AM. Passengers weren't really heading off-ship. It was kinda hinted that that was frowed upon, whatever. My parents went to sleep at around 11 with this big day planned the next day and I run off and find some guys who wanna party, these 4 other kids who were my age who I had met on the first day. We all get off the ship and head into town.

This town was a tourist town, there was a lot of people and we really wanted to just hit up some real gritty bars... like get away from the ****ing tourists you'know.. get **** hammered. We wanted this real authentic central american 'Desparado' style bar scene. So me and these 4 guys take a cab down south like 20 miles to some little town on the beach. We got there at midnight and proceeded to hit up all the bars. There was a small boardwalk right on the beach with about 4 bars within two blocks. It was pretty much 4 straight hours of bar hopping, doing tequila shots, pitchers of margaritas, more tequila shots. I'd say I had nearly an entire bottle of tequila by the end of the night to myself. I spent over $100 on drinks, and these were cheap drinks. There was some fights, some getting kicked out of a few places, your usual drunken excursions.

We wander out to the shore at about 5 AM, two guys had already passed out on a park bench in town and we left them. We pass out cold. I wake up in the morning to the water splashing at my feet. I have no idea what time it is, but the sun is awfully high in the sky. We're all still hammered, and me and another guy are trying to drag the others, who can barely walk, up to get a cab. We find the cab driver passed out in an alley in his cab. We just open the doors, jump in, throw money at this poor guy and point. The entire time were driving, and this guy doesn't speak english... no idea where we are going.. I'm just pointing to the road and yelling "LA BOATA!". It was the ****tiest cab ride ever, two guys are piss drunk passed out, one guy's puking in the back, I'm feeling so sick and it is hot as hell. We roll up to the sorta town square and the guy stops. We don't know what he's saying and he didn't know to take us straight to the boat so we just give him some money and get out. I'll never forget the weird, serene feeling I had stepping out of that dusky cab. I get out, the sun is just beating down, I'm sweating like crazy and it smells like tequila, which makes me instantly vomit all over the street. The breeze is blowing, and in the breeze, echoing all over the city I hear: ERRRRRRN ERRRRRRN ERRRRRRN over and over. The ship is blowing its horn because they are looking for us. It's like 7:40 AM by now. Boat was supposed to leave at 7.

As we started walking through the town, still several blocks from port, we get picked up by the police. There was this old 40's willy jeep comes hauling ass around a corner with two cops with little mexi-staches and aviator sunglasses. At this point I'm laughing because it looks so stereotypical. After being hauled into jail, I got cuffed to a desk. I had no clue what was going on. Police had been canvassing the port for an hour trying to find us. Finally my parents walk in with some crew official from the cruise ship and some state police. There was a lot of paperwork, I don't really remember because I had my head in a trash can most of the time. Finally we got our ID's back and they took us back to the boat, took the hand cuffs off, and let us go. The paperwork I was given was basically stating that I was not ever allowed to set foot back in Belize. At his point the Captain was major major pissed, sent us back to our quarters. I was released into the custody of my parents, and they were pretty pissed too, mainly just really embareassed.

Later that day the boat arrived at this island where my parents and I were going on a sorta jungle expedition that required mule riding and some climbing and hiking. I was so hungover that all I wanted to do was lay in the cabin but my parents forced him to go as punishment. This is the only time ever that a island jungle expedition was punishment. I was still puking. My day was pretty much the worst thing I've ever experienced, and mainly consisted of puking while hunched over on a mule, puking while crossing rope bridges, and puking while blocking everyone else who was waiting to cross said rope bridge. We're on this bridge, and there's 25 people behind me, a beautiful waterfall in this valley on my left, and I'm hanging over the right side puking down this 100 foot drop. My mother told the people behind us that I was afraid of heights. Yea, obviously that's what was going on.

It was an absolute crazy series of events. And that's why I'm not allowed back to the country of Belize."

You should see the picture I was graced with last night.... He's got quite a bit of blood on his hair.... He should know there are other ways to test rock hardness....



My neighbors are getting an 8am lesson in keeping the music down at 2am.... I had to listen to that rapBS last night... Wake up to dead quite.... HMM.... Time for NIN really really loud? I think so...

We had neighbors at our old house that loved to play the music stupid loud and have noisy parties late at night. All the other neighbors would call the cops. I would always get out in my back yard at 8:00 AM and work on my weed eater. The muffler had rotted off so it was REAL loud. My back yard was right next to their bedroom window. One time my other neighbor came over and he tested his Harley with straight pipes. We were not surprised to see that house foreclosed.

In the house that I used to own, there was a party next door, they hired a DJ, a rather loud one, and he played till about 4am. I behaved and waited till about 6 to extract my revenge. Before I crushed my left hand I was a rather decent guitarist. I moved my 2 Sun cabinets outside, that would be 8 8 inch speakers, powered them with my Ampeg 500 watt bass amp, which I fed with my Peavy classic amp. Amother 24 inches of speaker and another 160 watts of rude. I tuned up my Dean baby Z and went to town. Being in the middle of summer there were a lot of people who decided it was a good idea to sleep in the yard when they had consumed enough alcohol.
Well I decided this morning that I would do my best Jimi impression and I started with the Star Spangled Banner, then decided to do some eruption alla Eddie, then just decided to simply try and see how long I could hold the sustain before the overdrive took over and it became pure feedback. I had my little jam session for about half an hour. Never had any problems with late night parties, they would knock it down about midnight.
