Morning Jeff, Tweeze, Jim, Rick, Janet, Richard.
Richard that foot is just such a bloody pain in the neck eh! Bet you can't wait to be able to just get up and go for a walk, drive, shop, cook. etc. Without having to worry if you are going to take painkillers, use a cane, or a walker, I just can't get over that it has taken so long to heal, but it is healing, and that is good.

Pain killers finally kicked in and knocked me the **** out.
I don't know if rebuild is the correct term for me and the Rover. I was perusing Craigslist for maybe a replacement when I ran across the parcel tray. You never see a parcel tray in one when they are for sale so picked it up.

For me that would make things worse. I get all jumpy and nervous on pain meds. Feel nothing but no sleep.

I tried a bunch of different pain killers, a couple of good ol' Tylenol 3 helps the best. Interesting as Tylenol itself does nothing for me.

It really depends on the car, tires, and surface. A hair slip angle on modern low profile tires generates the best grip, and they fall off much more rapidly after that. Racing cars for paved tracks have their down force elements designed to work in one direction, slip it side ways, and you get a massive loss of aero traction. The more your tire can "bite" into the surface, the more you can spin the tires and keep grip. Slicks on smooth wet concrete, fastest way will NOT be to drift it. Knobby tires on dirt, spiked tires on ice, can generate more grip from pulling into the surface, so a controlled tire spin/drift can get more grip. Generally, friction also increases, and the thrust from the car may not be going in the direction you want to go. Drifting in mildly into a tight corner, taking the drift out mid corner, and having little or no drift to accelerate out, can be affective in very tight quarters even on pavement.(So yes, in that tight Auto-X section, getting it sideways is the quickest way around.) Does your 928 have a locking rear diff? Under power, if your inside tire is spinning, you are overall losing a lot of grip from making that tire give up its grip. Drifting isn't a good way to pick up speed in an open diff car. However, it does let you save up rotational momentum ahead of time, for going into a tight space. Old F1 tires back in the 50's, generated the most grip with the tail hanging out nicely. It was a matter of lap time vs conserving tires. A fun read, would be to pick up a copy of the first edition of Porsche Performance Drivng by Vic Elford. Its a good read of racing stories mixed in with the engineering and driving of a cars. I say get the first edition with the red 993 on the cover, as they later came out with a second edition with inserts on electronic aids that some what spoil the flow of the book. If your car, like mine, doesn't have these, get the older book.

My GTS not only has locking rear dif, it is electronic, called PSD and uses accelerometers for car direction, speed, and amount of steering input to decide how much lock up is needed. Oh and there is the passive rear steering on the 928.
I've read that book and others too. In fact, I have taught a performan driving class at the local PCA autcross events. Aero doesn't much come into play at the speeds of a typical autocross course unless you have those huge silly aero you see on some of the Japanese racers...

The cool kid trend here is the huge rear wing. Most cars I see it on are front wheel drive. Now I could be wrong but hte wing pushes down on the rear of the car for traction correct? If its front wheel drive whats the point?

Ha ha ha!!!
Geez w**** is getting busy. Thought I could play the new card a little while longer but I guess I can't hide my "genius" very well. Loving that I get to spend more time with my boys though. Taking them to the dentist today. Poor guys!

Only if the boys' dentist is ham-fisted. Dentists with long slender hands are awesome. My dentist is a petite woman, and her hygienist is, too. Never again will I subject myself to sausage-fingered man-hands.
