How about some sort of tray ceiling?

This is what I'm worried about, an interpretation of the storage space created by changing the current flat roof to a peaked roof.

Of course I won't know until I head down to the planners office but, it seems to be a "spin of the wheel" in this county.

Your project sure falls into one of those grey areas. Good luck with the planners office.

There is just not room with raising the roofline.

Just a little bit. Janet, do you expect any less from me? And we didn't take pictures. Maybe Thursday, guys. We are supposed to get together with some other local pelicans. I will take pics of that and of Sidney and me
knitting our leg warmers.

I wasn't talking about raising the roofline. Inside your garage, look up, and imagine that all but the outer 5-6' of the ceiling is bumped up into what is currently attic. What'll let you do that or not is dependent on your existing roof trusses, or your willingness to have your roof trusses modified or replaced. I'm thinking scissors, vaulted, or tray style trusses (see the pic of truss styles). Then you can get more height in your garage.

How about cutting into the roof with Dormers?

Oh that is a possibility. But there are a LOT of houses in the city that were built long long ago and have never been hit buy a tornado.

I don't have any close family relatives that have ever had any significant tornado damage.

I figure the cost of any change to the garage ceiling would have to include modifying the rafters. That is just not cost effective. As cool as it would be I am too cheap.

A dormer type of extension above the single bay which is where the workbench area is would still be expensive. I think a small scissors lift that tucks into the floor would be the best fit for my needs.

Autoquip Scissor Lifts and Custom Material Handling Equipment

These folks are just a few miles up the road from me. They will build a lift to fit me needs. I friend of mine works there.

Glen, why do you want to raise your garage roof again?

And Janet, black, occasionally with a packet of sweetener if its bad. And before you start freaking out, the reason why I know this is that we went to The Good Egg for breakfast the first time we met... With his father.
