in Canberra the evaporative air conditioning usually works well, the Hubby's brother has it in his house. But me I like refrigerated air.

I'm with you Azzy.
Right now I'm at a comfy 18C. I don't think the swampy would make it down to that tonight (maybe at about 4am). I think it's time to hit the fart sack. Night all. |

When boy sprouts we used a canvas bag with shelves as an evaporative refrigerator. Hang it from a tree and wet down the canvas, the inside would stay cool enough to keep food from spoiling.

I sometimes think of my grandparents surviving the dust bowl days in Oklahoma. No electricity so not even a fan to help. Huge clouds of dust and if you close the doors and windows to keep the dust out the entire house is like my attic. Many of the record highs on the books are still from the 1930s. Then imagine you want to cook something. You fire up the wood burning stove in the kitchen which is already 110 degrees. No fan to help cool things and then light the kerosene lamp to see. It had to be brutal. They were tough to survive. My parents were born about that time. So now imaging no disposable diapers, no running water, just a hand operated pump. No flush toilets, just an outhouse, a baby and it is 110 degrees.
I get grumpy if the temp in the house gets up to 80. Forget the "good ol days"

Crayons are mostly vegetable shortening so they are edible.
I like the green ones.

There are no crayons in my house to burn. I have just as many Leggos as crayons. Right up there with the number of lottery tickets I buy.
I will just use the flash lights we have if the lights go out at night.

Good plan Glen. I found that some little imp used the big mag lite and left it on standing on its end. The batteries are now dead.

We have as many little imps in our house as crayons.

Big imps we gots, just no little ones.
![]() But this big kid knows how to have numerous useful flashlights ready. When the ice storm was on the way last week I double checked 6 different flash lights. Several are rechargeable so they were topped off with a charge. The portable TV was charged and all cells phones were charged. The good news is they were not needed at all.

But you can bet that had you not done all that you would have been sitting in the dark with nothing to watch.

Gots me one o them new big ol LED Mag lights. I like it. Much brighter than my incandescent mag light the same size.
Bought a rechargeable LED drop light to monkey with my cars. Man I was so disappointed when I realized the 928 hood, fenders, most everything under the hood is aluminum so it magnet on the drop light don't stick to nuthin.

The only problem I would have if the power went out in the winter is heat. But I'm not worried about it enough to have wood for the fireplace. Have never set a fire in my fireplace and frankly after 15 years would be afraid to as it just might burn the house down.
Maybe I should call a chimney sweep to make sure flu is clear and get a stack of wood for he back yard for the bugs and spiders to live in or maybe one of them looks like real wood gas log things.

setting the house on fire is a bit much when the heat is out.
