With the engine off, you can put it in gear, catch the screwdriver between the belt and pulley, then push the car forward a few feet. Do similar to put the belt back on. It was similar with my 914 except the 914 had notches on the crank pulley to catch the belt on to make it easier since it wasn't as accessible as the VW.

Learned that trick the first weekend I had my 914 from an AMMCO station attendant after the belt broke in the middle of Arkansas.
