I used to own and race a sailboat. About 15 years ago, I added a 20something Swedish girl to my crew, since my wife wasn't able to race that summer. That was the only time I ever saw my wife act jealous in all the years we were married. From my point of view, well, let me just say, the view was terrific. :D

The pilot that works here has a personal airplane the he and his "pard" own together It is a Cessna 210 Turbo. They are both a straight as G-man. They just hate the fact that the gays have ruined the term partner. I love the scene in American Beauty when a gay guy introduces his partner. And then is asked “Oh, what kind of business do you guys own?”

Associate could be anything. He is trying to infer that the guy is a part owner of the airplane. In fact they formed a company that legally owns the airplane and each of them is ½ owner of the company. They are business partners and friends, but not anything beyond that.
