Well the first step of packing the 911 has begun. The tools I tote for a trip are loaded. A spare coil and fuel pump and the always on board DME relay and fuses. The car wash stuff and towels.

Now I have to start prodding Mrs Carrera to get ready. Only 5 more full days to get ready.

She will take every minute. I want to have everything in the car except the final little bits like the toothbrush and such on Friday.

Don't usually pack until the evening before departure. Sometimes, only an hour or two before depending on when the time of departure is. Only pack the evening before if I plan on an early AM departure time. Been decades since I road tripped far enough to require more than one day of driving to get there though. Used to make the drive from OKC to Atlanta in a day. In the last 20 years the farthest I've gone is OKC to Austin which is easily done in a day.

If I was going to French Lick, I would be required to plan an extra day each way to stop and spend the night at my sister's in Rolla Mo at a little over halfway there.

I traveled so much last year for Subaru I became a master at packing. It is easy when you always have a suitcase ready because you are going to need it very soon. My biggest delema was which guitar was I going to bring with me

Packing a small sports car with VERY limited space requires a lot of planning. If I were going by myself it would be much easier. Remember I have to fit my clothes and all the wife's paraphernalia as well. She insists on several changes of clothes and her definition of business casual is much different than mine. Then we have one entire bag of nothing but shoes! This is just a one week trip. The two week trips are even tougher to pack for. The dogs get freaked as soon as they see suitcases.

My mother-in-law stays there to dog and house sit. The dogs almost hate to see her come to the house because they figure we are going to abandon them again.

While I was at the dealer on Saturday I chatted with a car salesman about a Macan. To get the keyless entry Mrs Carrera will insist on is part of a 3K package. She went online to the Porsche site and did the build your dream car bit. To get the options she wants it becomes a $70K car. That is nuts.

I guess they will not miss our business sine they are on backorder for months to get a Macan of any sort.

The only way we could take the dogs on a road trip would be in a Macan. A Cayenne is just too big.

When Mrs Carrera saw my Cayenne made the comment she wanted a Macan. $70K is great they are going for $60K used.

I wouldn't mind a Macan either. They are about the same size as my RDX only lots more HP!

I know several people that have test driven a Macan. They all said it felt very sporty and much like a 911.

The weather was looking like rain on Saturday so I drove the Elky. Several of the car salesmen went out and looked at it. I figured they were not really interested in an even swap for a Cayman GT4.

Like my Cayenne. The price was right and it's not THAT big. The only thing that makes it NOT sporty is the automatic transmission torque converter lag when you go to pile on the throttle in the corner after braking. Haven't tried left foot braking and using the tiptronic paddles so don't know if that would help or not.

I just looked at the price for a Cayman Gt4. $85K is just nucking futz.

I would never buy new anyway but wow. In a few years I may find one that is a bit more affordable. I am just too cheap for that.
