Not following the yellow line, just goin south to Marble Falls TX.

Will make the VA trip AFTER the 928 GTS is up and running. There are a couple of 928 GTG in that area. The first one, Sharks in the Mountains is March in Banner Elk, NC. The other one, Frenzy is Sept in Sterling VA.

Not sure about making the one in October, Sharktoberfest it's in Anaheim. But it is sponsored by the guys that did the original suspension upgrades to my 928, previous owner.

I didn't do the shirt. There are 928s from all over the USA and Canada showing up. Think that's what the yellow swash references.

Last year there were a couple that flew in from Europe and the sponsor let them drive a couple of his 928s. Don't know how many he has.

Besides him there is a guy in Austin that has 9 of them. He is currently trying to sell the 928 race car. His house has a huge garage. 8 cars wide. He lives about 5 miles from the friend I stay with in Austin and they go to the same church. One of the cars he has only has 2700 miles on it and they are all documented in a log book.

I enjoy driving my cars too much to be a collector.

Just got a message from the guy cleaning up my Cayenne for my trip. He picked it up just after noon yesterday and was supposed to bring it back at noon today. He texted that it won't be finished till sometime tomorrow.

And I thought it was in pretty good shape just a little dirty and only needed a quick wash & wax job.

Guess I should have expected him to go all OCD on it, the guy even polishes all the pits out of the windshield.

Good morning all.

Richard, the guy that gets my Porsche ready for trips is crazy enough to put the car on a lift and wax the paint on the bottom side of the car and carefully inspect every component on the car. He is eccentric and only works on white cars with a burgundy interior however. That fool works for just beer but he insists on a climate controlled garage and music. He is a real strange dude but very good looking and most of all very modest. The SOB is REAL slow.

My usual guy hasn't done much since he stepped on a nail and had to go thru some kind of ordeal over it.

The guy I got doing the Cayenne now I've had do my various cars once in a while. He is expensive. His work has been winning major car shows. He says he is insulted to be called a detailer. His card says Automotive Appearance Enhancement Specialist. He not only does the underside of the car, he pulls the wheels off and washes all the underside and inside the fender wells before putting stuff, not just wax on ALL the surfaces to clean, treat, and protect them. That includes removing any cosmoline no matter how long it's been on the underside of the car. He has even been known to get parts and fix some items on the cars too.

When he texted me that it was going to take a little longer yesterday he called the job a bicentennial restoration. That means in his opinion the car has never been done properly since it was new.

He just texted me that he was on his way with the car.

My usual guy has been farming parts of it off to his kids. Takes a lot longer now and the quality needs to be checked. Sometimes the kids miss something, somehow.

Sid, I have been on REI's website but some things like ski gloves are nice to handle. Other things like hydration packs are fine through the web though. I need to have Em look though the knife section. Need something sharp with a handle that doesn't get slippery when wet or bloody. They have a scout knife but it has Bear Grylls name on it.

She needs it for field dressing game. After re-reading that it didn't sound right so figured I would clarify.

Whew...$350. It IS cleaner and shinier than brand new top and bottom, inside and out. Wow. He even polished the fog out of the headlights, thought was going to have to get new ones for $500 each. He is anxious to get his hands on the 928.

That isn't too bad if he did that much work.

Yea, that does kinda sound like a little young Dexter in the making.

He even told me about using some special stuff on everything in the interior except the headliner so kids couldn't mess it up with crayons or markers.

I really like the Bailey's stuff he treated the rubber, plastic and underside with. It gives it a satin finish instead of glossy and soaks in so doesn't sling off the tires like most of the tire dressings.

Goin to be interesting to see how it looks after the road trip.

After I get back from vacating he wants me to bring Pepper over for a play date with his dogs.

My normal guy was laid up for 6 months, 3 years ago from 17 broken bones when some idiot ran a stop sign into him. Now all he does is biotch about getting on the cold concrete floor under a car to do all the maintenance. He is a rather strapping young stud (at least in his own eyes), and he kinda puts things off, and waits for his 16 year old son to help.

This guy used to only use that very expensive Zymol stuff that you heat up and apply with your bare hands. Now he is into all the paint restoration stuff and buffers and uses all the fancy nano coatings. He has been doing cars since he was in HS, and is my age.
