I ran through the purchase program USAA has on the Macan. By using them we can save $2,917 off of sticker price and get a 0.99% loan. They pre-qualified me for a 60K loan.

I am thinking borrow some of the total price and see just how much the tag, tittle and taxes come out to be. There are no fees to pay it off early. Some of the cash is earning 1.5% so that half a percent is all profit. Maybe 5 or 6 bucks a month!

When I leased the Boxster I leased it for the full amount. If totaled insurance would pay it off not give me fair market. Would have lost anything I made as a down payment if it were totaled. Called my Ins. agent to see what my payment would be and he told me about it or I would have made a big downpayment. Also the way they did the lease there was a monthly fee for the lease that wasn't a percentage of amount of the vehicle being leased. Making a downpayment just reduced the residual when the lease ran out.

When I got the 928GTS I leased it as well. The total cost of the lease vs paying cash for a $40K car was $1200 for the entire 4 year lease with a $10K residual. Comes out to just under 2%. Which was really good 8 years ago. Especially on a 1994 vehicle.

When I was at the dealership the other day a lady walked in and traded in her Audi Allroad for a Macan that was in the showroom.

One of my friends owned a decent size farm. He was used to walking into the farm equipment dealer and writing a check for 400K for a new piece of equipment. He just carried a standard personal checkbook. He bought some equipment that was staggering in cost. When his kids all said they had no interest in farming and he was old enough that he did not want to keep farming he sold the place for what I am sure is a big price. He went into downtown Atlanta driving one of the old farm trucks that had a a certain aroma since he was sure to drive through some fresh cow patties before going to town.

He went to the Ferrari dealership and ended up writing a check for a new Ferrari and told them he would be back tomorrow for the truck.

Have a cousin that was basically a stoner. The workplace drug testing stopped him from doing the drugs, but he is still a gardening, vitamins, and all natural foods freak. Anyway one of his stoner dreams was to walk into a Mercedes dealership in overalls and flip flops and pay cash for a new Mercedes. He got to and did that a few months after his baptist preacher father passed away.

I went to his father's funeral. It was huge. I think the whole town and them some showed up.

His baptist minister father, one of those preachers that always wore a black suit and white shirt with a silve fish hook on his lapel, invested everything except their basic needs in Realestate. They moved to Wagoner Oklahoma in the late 70's. When they did he bought some land and built the neighborhood and the new house they moved into. Nothing opulent just typical mid-income housing. He continued to by houses and rented them as section 8 housing. The renters tore up the houses but the state paid to fix them back and section 8 guaranteed the rent. He had a couple of guys that did nothing but fix houses.

He called his business Good Neighbors Reality. He took all the profits and re-invested it only taking just a meager living for their bare necessities. When he passed the income from all the rent houses stopped getting re-invested. Within a few months his 3 kids were cash millionaires plus all the income properties that generated it. His youngest daughter took over the management of Good Neighbors and last I heard was a big wig in the city of Wagoner partly because of the reputation of Good Neighbors Reality but also because she was the richest person in town.

He did all that on a small town baptist ministers salary.

Uncle was a barnstorming evangelist when he met and married my aunt (Mom's youngest sister). He had a plane and flew around guest preaching.

When I was just 3 he was the minister for a church in Fairfax OK and they lived in a very small house provided by the church. Remember riding in the car with him and my Dad and him showing my Dad a neighborhood of small new homes and he talked about investing in them. A year later when we went to visit he and his family were living in a nice older 3 story split level home with lots more room for him, his wife, and tree kids.

Remember several things from the house in fairfax. It was the first time I remember making home made ice cream. I also remember going to an Indian Pow Wow with the drums and dancers and all. And they had a huge pot luck spread and had to eat on a back porch because I was so young. Cousin had a slot car set I thought was really cool but all I was allow to do was watch. Also remember they had a pool table in the basement when my cousin got older and playing cut throat with my Dad and Uncle. Played pool with my cousin and his friend too, but it doesn't stand out in my memory as well.

They lived in Fairfax until his son graduated and joined the military. Then he moved to being pastor at a church in Sapulpa OK. The parsonage was small, but big enough for his family with only the 2 girls at home so they stayed there.

After the oldest girl graduated they moved to Wagoner, and he retired as pastor of the Wagoner Baptist church. I only heard about his reality business in that I understood he built all the houses in the neighborhood they moved into in Wagoner. And then again when his wife came down with cancer and they were discussing how he would manage the business without her. That was when he brought his oldest daughter on board.

His son works doing electronic stuff at a company in Ft Smith AR. His other daughter and her husband both work for American Airlines in Tulsa. He is a plane mechanic and she is a scheduler. They go on a LOT of trips with all their free travel. Oh and they are in a biker club. She was a wild one. She ran away a lot as a teen. She married a 2nd cousin then divorced him when all wanted to do was sit and watch TV after work. Her and the biker/traveler have been married quite a while now.

Don't I have some interesting family?

Still think it is interesting that all my Dad's sisters were teachers and all their daughters were teachers as well. Dad had 7 sisters.
My two older half sisters were both teachers as well.

Well......

The Macan is ordered. They tried to find one in the country but no one had our exact spec list.

It will be here in 6 to 12 weeks. We bought it at the local dealer 2 miles from my house. They matched the quote from the Park Place in Dallas.

Wooohooo for you guys! What fun.

Sounds like our local dealership is doing better than they used to too!

Macan base configured out at $80,680 for all the junk I wanted.
The Macan Turbo was $107,840.
The Cayenne Turbo S was $187,940.
Looking like driving older used is still in my future.

I'm guessing you aren't getting the 21in wheels with body painted centers so the Macan will match your Carrera.

The Macan was originally rated at 5400 lbs towing capacity and several tow their race cars on open trailers with a Macan S saying it does great with no issues. Only recently has Porsche lowered the towing rating on the Macan and people think it is due to some change in the USA standards and is still higher ROW.

When I got the new X3 there wasn't one configured like I wanted at a dealership. BUT there was one on the boat coming over so only had to wait a week. It was exciting and agonizing at the same time.

Back in Oz, woohoo.

One more flight in the morning to get home.

Missus is back to the grind stone Monday, I've still got another six weeks of retirement training.

Yeah, bit of a bugger with our timing.

Visiting sounds like a great plan.

Plan for a min of five full days in the Alice and I'll take time off to play tour guide. There's plenty of room to stay at our place btw (that goes for everyone but it could get real cosy if you all come at once). The best time is in our spring time when you'll also likely get to see the wild flowers. You'll also need a minimum of two full days at the Rock to see it's bits.

It is silly some of the options Porsche has. I the custom color paint for 6 grand or the huge wheels and custom painted. I am guessing Porsche knows more about what sells than I do. Just a guess, and I do realize they sell cars for a living but they likely don't know squat about aerial mapping!

In the end it is a car my wife will drive on a daily basis. We did spring the park assist surround view for $1,190. It has cameras all around and the radar. My wife is like many women and hates to back up. Now she can see what is back there.

The thing that we laughed about on the way home was our salesman's comment about price. We showed him the build list we had and we went over the features. Then I asked the loaded question "OK what about the price" Of course we want to pay a dollar and they want double the sticker. We have to come to a final price. He started in on a bit about how some customers come is and fight for every dollar and are usually unhappy people. The people that pay sticker are all happy in life and laid back. I nodded and then showed him the firm price offer I had from the Dallas dealer. It was just under 3 grand less than sticker. Then he did the old "let me talk to the manager" routine and came back a few minutes later and said OK, he will match that.

SCORE!

Just the round trip to Park Place was not something I wanted to contemplate. It is near the airport and has heavy traffic. It is a good location for a dealer, just not convenient for us.

We placed the deposit and drove home. I did drive the 911 and it was noticed. The sales manager is a nice guy but I think his mom may have to drive him to work, I guess he has to be 21 to sign contracts so maybe he does drive.

Dang he is a puppy. I was just happy he decided to take our offer on the first round.

Off to shop for the kids for Christmas.

Just got a call from the doctor's office that did my V-work. They have a refund check for $450.00 and would we like to pick it up or have them mail it?

That will be our first stop!!!

Congrats on her new DD!

Sounds like a party at Jeff's house next spring. Dave can fly us. OK, maybe not as that would be a fairly big plane. Charter?
