You can take the training wheels off now Jeff.

We had our first real hard freeze a few days ago and the leaves are letting go. Still a lot of leaves on the trees.

RKDinOKC 12-11-2016 09:37 AM

Looks like the cottonwood in the back yard just let got of all it's leaves this week. The back yard is carpeted in cottonwood leaves.

The Palm trees here are still holding on to their leaves. ;)

Mrs Carrera decided we needed to clean the filters on the koi pond. It is not a major ordeal and it is done. It warmed up to the low 60s so not real cold.

RKDinOKC 12-11-2016 01:27 PM

The leaves are grouping themselves. Now if the wind could just be trained to bag em and drag em to the curb!

We have 6 inches of !@^$ on the ground and are expecting 4-5 more overnight, according to the news talkers.

I shoveled the driveway twice already and started an igloo for the kids.

pete3799 12-11-2016 02:51 PM

Yup....headed this way Wayne. Should start this evening. 4"-8" or 5"-10" depending on who you believe.

just got the "no school tomorrow" call.

RKDinOKC 12-11-2016 05:01 PM

Know where you can get a good 4x4 with a working heater if you have any trouble getting around. LOL

Does it rhyme with "Pepperwagon"? :D

I'm good. My Suquinox is AWD if we need to go anywhere. Unless my wife decides to take that vs the Malibu.

RKDinOKC 12-11-2016 05:23 PM

Think some affectionately refer to their Cayenne/pepperwagon as a PIG.

Every kids dream, most parents nightmare. As a kid I remember listing to the radio hoping to hear school is closed but no announcement. So off we went to school, one mile away in a ice storm on bicycle. I spent 10 minutes trying to get up one little driveway into the grass. I kept sliding down towards a busy street. We finally got to school and the sign on the door was closed. Of course we cheered, they played in the ice covered streets of the neighborhood. The only good places to stop and rest was a spot were a car had been parked and the street was dry. I think I had 24 crashes on my bike. No skinned up body parts, just bruises. When I crashed it was hit the ground and slide. We finally got back home after a few hours. Of course my mom had finally heard school was closed and we were not back home. She knew were were just being boys and out playing. Now days parents call 911 and have a search if the parents don't know exactly where the kids are. It was a different era for sure.

Good Monday morning.

I got up early and cleared the plow leftovers from the end of the driveway. I didn't want my wife having to push through it.

Back in the day many Moms didn't work so it wasn't a big deal to call it off. Now, parents that both work have to take a day off or find other arrangements for the kids. There were some complaining on FB about the decision.

We are lucky that I am home for days like this or holiday breaks.

GH85Carrera 12-12-2016 06:54 AM

Yea, I was lucky in that my mom was home when I was a kid. About the time I was in high school she got a part time job just to have something to do all day. She never "had" to work outside of the home. She was on a lot of social committees. As an Air Force Officer's wife she was pretty much required to have a party and attend a lot of other parties and social events. They encouraged the officers to get to know each other on a social level and not just a work environment.

In Hawaii one of my buddies was actually a air force Sargent. He is the guy that got me into photography. My dad had to get a letter from his commanding officer that stated my friend was coming over to my house to see me and it was not my dad and an enlisted man getting to be buddies. The military does not like that. I can understand why.

My buddy Joe would come over to pick me up and we would go around the island and shoot photos and then go to the base photo hobby shop to process the film and make prints. It cost a whopping 25 cents to process all the film I wanted. I did it myself which was the fun part.

My Mom did the same, getting a job when I was in HS. She actually still worked there up until last year. A little laundromat in our town. It had several owners over the years, some good, some not so much, but they always kept her on. The only reason she left is because she just can't get around very good and she didn't want to let the newest owners down by having to call in sick.

Think I'll give her a call right now.

RKDinOKC 12-12-2016 07:51 AM

Yep, my Mom started working when I was in 9th grade. Iust in time for me to have girls over for uuuh,...Lunch, yeah, that's it, we were eating Lunch.

Porsche-poor 12-12-2016 08:06 AM

GH85Carrera 12-12-2016 08:36 AM

We just have overcast. The cold front came back through so it is back in the 30s and 40s. No sign of rain or snow.
