Hi all SmileWavy

I've been a bit crook lately. Actually, we both have. Finally getting it sorted. Here's a good tip - don't go wandering off to a third world country and bring back scabies. No one appreciates it as a gift.

What's the smelliest thing in the world?

An anchovies vagina. :D

GH85Carrera 08-10-2017 09:37 AM

Good tip!

There are lots of third world diseases no one really wants.

I did finally whip the file sharing issues in Win 10. All three computers see each other and shard the folders I want to share.

First set that folder to share and be modified by everyone, then go to advanced file sharing and set all the choices to be correct. Then re-boot everything and wait a few minutes for the network to start talking like a normal family.

It was maddening to have one computer be able to see the other two and have full access to the folder to copy, delete or modify a file in any way but the other ones can only modify or even see one of the others but not each other.

It was like a family of women that are not talking to some of the relatives so you have to relay a message.

Gotta try and get some sleep, night all

G'night Jeff.

It's perpetually Groundhog Day here. Every day is Saturday and everyday I work on the garage remodel. Noooooooooo!

You should have never retired.

We don't have any issues with any of ours at home, but only one is Windows 10. The other several are Windows 7. We have an HTPC the we store all the movies and other videos on and it just always works all the time. Unless we have problems with the WAP, then only the wired computers connect properly.

Any of you every played Artemis?

Never even heard of it.

The computers I have are the laptop the flight computer laptop, one old workstation I built for a couple of hundred bucks and some specialized mapping software. Then my main home computer that has Outlook and the full Office Professional installed. The flight computer is normally over at my partners place.

I have 2TB of mirrored RAID drives on my main system and a second single drive as a scratch drive on it. The old system has a 3 TB mirrored raid and a 1 TB mirrored raid. My partner just sent me a file via FTP that is 1.6 gig. It is not even a large area, and not that high resolution, it just takes a ton of space to do what we do.

The computers mostly work as individual stand alone systems but the need to copy a file or do part of a job on multiple system is constant.

My partner has our big bad boy computer that is the 128 gig of ram and 8 core CPU. He also has a Ailenware laptop and it is a laptop for Andre the giant only. It is huge with two fast video cards in it. It get so hot it would burn your legs.

Great game if you have multiple computers and are a Star Trek fan.

Non of the computers have a login that is password protected? Are the shares setup for the user "everyone"?

GH85Carrera 08-10-2017 12:59 PM

Yep. I am the only user and I just rotate my chair to use one or the other. I have zero reason to have a login. My wife uses the main computer for a few minutes every month or so. No one else ever does. The flight laptop goes from our houses to the airport and into the airplane to run the camera. It never goes to a public wi-fi. They all have an good anti-virus and firewall.

I finally did get the sharing working. At least until Microsoft has another big update to Win 10 and changes things again.

flipper35 08-10-2017 01:02 PM

Everyone has a login, just not everyone uses a password.

Just out of curiosity, do you have multiple wireless access points? That can cause all sorts of sharing issues.

GH85Carrera 08-10-2017 01:07 PM

I am not sure I understand the question. My router has one main wi-fi but only the laptop uses wi-fi only and that is because it does not have a Cat 5 cable connection.

I do have some other wi-fi networks. One is called Hey you kids get off my lan! And I have a guest account but they all have a password. I don't use them much except a 5GHz account for the garage iPad to play Pandora. It is a long way off and gets better connection on the 5GHz wi-fi. It is all run from an Apple Airport Express.

Good evening.

Didn't do much besides sit at the garage today with the Cayenne. At least he was trying to find the actual check engine light problem instead of throwing parts at it. Got to go back tomorrow they had to order plugs. At 140K it still had the originals and the electrodes were about gone.

928 is at the detailers! He says all he has left is fixing the door handle that is cracked and doesn't want to give it to me just to bring it back after it breaks.

I've got a bunch of computers.

My Laptop with Sierra and Vmware Fusion Windows 10 and a TB external drive for bootable backups. Do Cisco VPN to works stuff on both the Mac and Win10. Even have Powershell scripts I run in Win10 that save the Active Directory, Exchange, and Office365 files to a folder on the Mac.

Have 3 Mac Mini servers. Mail, Web, File. Have a 4TB external and 5TB fireproof waterproof external on the File for backups both Time Machine hourly and Bootable.

Have my 4th Gen AppleTV that does all the stuff my Mac Mini media server did.

iPhone and iPad if those count. Don't really use the ipad much anymore. It's a 1st gen iPad mini. It kept me entertained when I was down with my foot.

ISP is 100/20 cable and have wired public network for the servers. Have a NATted private wi-fi "Homey" with my laptop, phone, tv, appleTV, ipad, and canon color laser copier printer. The wifi is a base and two wifi only connected bridge routers and gets both full bars and full speed anywhere in the house.

Also have a guest wifi network I turn on and off when needed. (can do that on my iPhone) it is called "Use This One BOB." and doesn't have any security for obvious reasons. Me and my guests get a laugh from it when the guest is NOT Bob. He still asks if that is the network he is supposed to use.

I have been having an issue with the cable TV folks, Cox Communications. I have a Tivo system that is mine, and Cox only provides a little PCMCIA card they call the cable card. It slides into the Tivo box and decodes the signals. There is a goofy arrangement of a Tuning Adapter that is a box that sits outside of the Tivo and it has a light that is supposed to be on solid green.

The old Tuning adapter would quit for a few seconds and the recording would stop. I called Tech support and they said I should go to the brick and mortar store and they will give me a new tuning adapter and cable card. I did that and that card nor tuning adapter would talk to the Cox system. I put back my same equipment and it finally synced up. I called them again and told the trouble desk that the tech support suggested I have two or three of each and keep trying until one works. Nope I ain's gonna play. I called the service folks to come make it work, that is their job.

First guys did nothing at all but remove a filter on the T connector that one of the other past techs had put on. He left withing 4 minutes. It did not fix anything. Second tech came out and he actually brought some cable cards and tuning adapters. He tried his two cable cards and neither would download the firmware. So the old cable card went back in. He tried a different tuning adapter and it has not synced up after hours and he said he would call the supervisor and come back the next day. That next day was yesterday and a new guy shows up alone with no equipment and was puzzled but the Tivo. He had never seen one. He left and came back with a different cable card that would not work. So back in with the old card. No I am waiting for him to return with a supervisor that knows how to make it work in theory.

In the meantime I still can't see many premium channels that we pay for.

Today if things are not resolved I will be talking to the customer retention department and we will get a top level Cox employee out here that know what to do to make it work.

Good Friday morning.

Jim Richards 08-11-2017 06:52 AM

Hola, y'all. Glen, that brings back bad memories of Comcast when we lived in the D.C. Metro area. We have Cox out here, but I only use them for Internet. I try to keep my interaction with them to a minimum.

Porsche-poor 08-11-2017 07:15 AM

morning all. Jim what are you doing online. Get back to work!!!! Or go sailing. I vote for that.

Jim Richards 08-11-2017 08:22 AM

Why not both? Actually, that's the plan. :)

Porsche-poor 08-11-2017 08:36 AM

skip the garage and hit the water asap!!!!

flipper35 08-11-2017 08:46 AM

I never added up all the computers we have. We have 5 that are pretty active. No, make that 6.

GH85Carrera 08-11-2017 08:51 AM

Off of the top of my head I came up with 19 devices here that have an IP address. I guess I could go to the router and see what is used but I am not that ambitious.
