Never heard of the mac factory ones leaking, but have heard of a LOT of the home built PC ones leaking and being abandoned for super quiet air cooled stuff.

Kinda funny...My nephew got one of the new Mac Cubes. It was super quiet because it had no fans at all. It was designed to use convection air currents and did really well too. The one hitch was my nephew put a cheap hot rod video card in. The card was not a recommended video card because it had two big noisy fans on it. Kinda ruined the quiet thing cause the video card was always whirrring. There was a video card that was recommended that was just as fast, and it was designed to use the convection cooling. Of course it was more expensive though.

The namesake of this thread came through. I downloaded the program he recommended. Pretty neat program. It shows the fan speeds and the temps. It even monitors the hard drives. The CPU is 44 degrees C or 11 degrees right now in loaf along mode. I will put it to the test soon.

I got the project done by using two computers, I had to switch the processing back and forth. I want to run it from scratch overnight tonight to see if the CPU can handle the heat with just cleaner fans or if I need to put in the big honking CPU fan I have sitting on the shelf.

Richard, the ones I linked to were all closed loop factory systems.

Glen, glad the SpeedFan I mentioned worked out for you!

My first thought was the motherboard utilities DVD. I installed the program and it said nope, ain't gonna play. So I uninstalled it and posted to Pelican after looking on Google and seeing lots of sketchy sites.

Well, I cleaned up the dust earlier today and have been monitoring the CPU fan speed and CPU temp. The fan is likely maxed out for the speed it can do and is at 2372 RPM and the CPU is at 67C and has been there for a while. I will put in the big CPU cooler even if it makes it through the project tonight. The system and motherboard are all at 35C so just the CPU running at 100% is hot.

It will be interesting to see if the big assed fan really makes it cooler. It should for sure.

morning all. got back from the coast on Monday and dad had what could be called an episode after taking a nap in the car. Looks like he cut the blood flow off on the right side at his neck and when he woke up he had vertigo and got sick. Had to watch him on Tuesday till the brother-in-law could take over for the night.

That sucks David. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Well even with the dust blown out the CPU locked up last night. So today in goes the mega CPU cooler & fan that I already own. If that does not do it, I will have to resort to liquid cooling. The case I have supports it, but I have never bothered. I will add another case fan as well. That sucker will be ventilated and cool!

Yea, the full interactive 3D on the 4K monitor with surround sound does make the CPU really work.

If you swap in the big fan make sure you use a quality thermal compound.

I know, get a cheap small window AC unit and run a duct to the computer case.

That is basically what we do in our server room only it's not a cheap small window unit, and the ducting goes to racks where all the computers suck air from the front and blow it out the backk. The room is always very cool. The thermostat gets all upset, sets off alarms, and sends emails if the room temp gets above 70°F.

Hyper T4 | Cooler Master

This is the fan I put on the monster server with 128 gig and the other goodies. It has never had a heat issue. I think this will do. I will put on a fresh coat of thermal goo as always.

We had to replace a heat sink here once and the guy used the whole tube of thermal compound on one processor/heat sink. It wasn't the small tube that comes with it, it was the large tube for OEMs to use for multiple, maybe 20, units.

Richard, ours even has a temp controlled vent fan to exhaust heat if it gets too warm.

I took the print order to my print provider now that I don't have a printer in the office. Well I do have a printer but it is a 8.5 x 11 printer. To make 33x44 I have to take it to a print provider.

Knowing the job is close to done I was in a more positive mood and my car stereo served up a good selection on the way back.

Crank it up! I have this on album and CD. I likely wore out a 8 track tape of it.

The guitar playing on this little song is great. Back when bands had to have real talent to play a live concert, no auto-tune.

When my computer kept crashing and I was struggling to get the image processing finished things were not so positive. I sure feels better now.

Stijn!!

Well, that was the days before all the computer and digital processing that bands use now days.
We saw ZZ Top live recently. Same three guys rockin it hard.
I have all the ZZ and Skynyrd albums, well the newer stuff is CDs not vinyl.
For the album Tres Hombres I bought it on quadraphonic 8 track, regular 8 track, cassette, album, CD And then the Six pack CD version. 6 times is enough!

Don't care what they say about him, like Ted Nugent too. Get odd looks and smiles both when my phone rings...Alright, it's the Wango Zee Tangooo, 1234.

Also notice if I cruise through the radio stations and stop on a song I like...It's an "Oldies" station. They don't even bother to call it classic rock anymore.

Had to put my phone on vibrate walking thru the office's cubical farm. Can't believe people complained just because every time I got an email my phone went...Crack that Whip...Devo. LOL.

Then there was the time I was in a big conference and forgot to put my phone on vibrate. A friend called..."Warning, this phone has detected an incoming call from a loser. Repeat incoming call from a loser. Please do not initiate contact." Cracked up the whole auditorium. Then when I stood up and started walking out of the auditorium i said, "I'm sorry, I've gotta take this." The they all cracked up even more. Sure beat having everyone get upset because my phone started ringing and I took a call interrupting the speaker.

My ring tone is the opening riff from AC/DC song Thunder. Nice and mellow.....

Over the hump day today. I may have to borrow the Macan from Mrs Carrera today to deliver the prints. The are mounted on foamboard and two prints that are just under 6 square feet each are not good in the back of the El Camino. They would blow out quickly.

I know, I will offer to take her to dinner Friday night! Yea, that will work. Since we eat out every Friday anyway this time I will pay just like always but it will be a special dinner! And not to Sam's for the $3.03 for the two of us to eat, someplace more expensive.
