I suppose some days "work" here is an arbitrary term. Yesterday was work work and no one to blame but the director of IT.

Thought you worked closely with that Director Guy.
We have a VP of IT starting next week so the IT Director has stopped making any decisions. VP is supposed to be directing all our computer and software decisions towards the future. He worked for our company before as a network guy. He was pushing Netware instead of Active Directory after Netware had already died. And setup our company's IP network as 198.162.x.x home Lan IPs instead of 10.0.x.x Lan IPs that are supposed to be used for business. Now we have trouble with home users remoting in with VPN because the default for home routers is 198.162.x.x. Also he setup all the AD servers with .org DNS instead of .com. so now we have to keep duplicate DNS records setup for everything and directory based logins don't match email addresses. Some stuff you login as user@company.com, some as user@company.org. So we can't implement single sign-on. Maybe his platform is to change all the Lan IPs to 10.0.X.X and change all the .org stuff to .com. That would be pretty funny.

Yeah, I made him unbrick the switch while I ate his lunch.
Our VPN doesn't have any issues with either subnet. We were also using Pertino for a while which was great, but then they started taking away features unless you started paying more so now it sucks. They were bought out and are now Cradlepoint. Today was another work day. Had to upgrade parts of our intranet. Posted this video on the IT news section.

boy am I glad I don't have to deal with this stuff at all anymore. There is a whole department that lives someplace else we call.

Our VPN is Cisco. The VPN client is Cisco AnyConnect. And until a couple of months ago wouldn't let my Mac connect using my iPhone as a Personal Hotspot. My Virtual PC would, but not the Mac itself. Even now sometimes IPSec works and sometimes SSL no matter what OS you are using.

Home again. Long day but I think it was worth it. We impressed them with our dog and pony show. The hand shadows and tap dance went off perfect. Now we need to make a proposal for what it will cost, how long a project will cost and how they can make money.

Oh boy. Back to waking up early instead of staying awake all night.
Good Morning Groovers. This is the last day of the month too. Whomever is doing the Month End process has Yet bring everything back up and make sure all the services are running. There is always something that is not running. And that is just the critical apps I check every night.

Golly getting up early is FUN!
OK, that is a slight exaggeration, maybe the word I meant was sucks. Another day of getting up an hour early. Today is easy for me, I just take my business partner to the airport and drop him off. He "gets" to fly to a northern state in Yankee land and provide pilot services for another company that will pay us a nice daily rate. He "gets" to work everyday until Monday and then fly home. Then we can get back onto flying our projects. The projects are popping up and it is fast becoming almost overwhelming. We will make it work somehow.

At least when you are busy time passes quickly. Not sure if time passing quickly is good or bad though.

If I don't have anything to do I usually wake up and a couple hours have passed in what seems like no time at all.

morning all. great news Glen.
Today is the start of Festival of Trees. That's an annual event here for the children's hospital. Today is lunch with the wife (shirt and tie), Saturday is a full tux. I am taking all sorts of abuse at work about the tie.

Just thought of something. With my beard down to almost the 4 button on my dress shirt I could wear a bow tie and nobody would ever know.

We rented a car for the trip yesterday. I took my business partner to the airport in it this morning.
It is a Fiat 500x, also know as a Fiat POS. I did one thing in it that I have never ever done before, I drove in 8th gear. It will moan along in 8th gear at 1,400 RPM at 55 MPH. You can feel and hear the engine on the verge of lugging. It only got 27.5 MPG for the round trip. My wife's Macan would have done that or better. It is FAR from the worst car I have driven, but it for sure did not not make me think, "hmm, this is not a bad car" like some other rentals I have driven.

When we were down there we got over 30 all the time and the best was 32.5mpg in a much bigger car with only a 6 speed slushbox. Just like the Mini, I had high hopes for the car but they seem to be a name attached to an idea that was poorly executed.
I have not shaved since a week ago last Sunday. I have almost enough to grab onto without needing a tweezers so at that rate I should have a full beard when I grow up. When we met for lunch I had almost two weeks growth then if all y'all can remember that far back.

My dad would shave right before going to bed and still not have a 5:00 shadow. Many of his co-workers kept a razor at work to shave if they were getting a stubble face. Dad never needed to.
I grew a mustache just after high school and a full beard back in 1977. So I guess my beard is 40 years old.

I shave when I get around to it. It takes a week to get to the stubble stage. I save a lot on hair care products between the (lack of) hair on my head and slow facial hair growth.
