Mom made me cut my own switches. Dad just used his belt. At school they had paddles with holes except for one principal, He used a length of garden hose. Garden hose was pretty tough for grade school. Never heard of him actually using it, think it was mainly for threats.

Hope your Dad can beat it. My nephew that mows my yard went thru that. The chemo was horrible. Took him a year of treatments. He is doing well now, his hair is growing back in, and started mowing my yard again. His parents let him get a puppy to be with him. He is training the puppy to be a therapy dog.

Yeah, thats what they did with my Mom and her knees. Said with her dementia if they put her under (even with local) to replace them she basically wouldn't wake up. So had to manage it with pain meds, physical therapy, and Chiropractors. Did that her last 10 years. She was 84 when the dementia got noticeable.

The lady that lives in the house behind mine was a company stock holder. She has a couple of helpers to have someone there 24 hours a day. She had her 100th birthday last month. Still sharp as a tack and only has the helpers so she doesn't have to cook or clean or manage her meds. Oh yeah, or to chauffeur her around. She has a LOT of money. Outlived 3 husbands that were very well to do and got all their stuff. Brother said the round the clock help was costing her $7K/month! Costed me $1600 to have a lady move in and stay with Mom for a week when I went to a 928 GTG. Hind sight, wouldn't have done it.

We went to the car rental place to pick up a...........

Rental car. It is a Fiat 500. I have not been n a Fiat for over about 40 years. I hope this one is more reliable. The rental company pushes the roadside assistance program they have for "just $15 more per day" but I ain't gonna bite. If that car breaks down we will just leave it where it is and make other arraignments.

We are driving down to Texas to try to talk a company into picking us for a upcoming and ongoing project. Going head to head with a GIANT aerial mapping company from up in Yankee land. They fly huge expensive aircraft, and top notch million dollar camera systems and LIDAR systems. We are going to be a lot cheaper, and a faster turn around and we will keep the work in the USA. The big boys often send projects to India for the data processing. It will be a long day.

My next door neighbor goes to Dallas to visit her Mom. She always rents a car to keep the mileage off her own. Her last car was a Honda Accord. Now she has a Hundai Sante fe. Just can't imagine a rental car costing less for a weekend than the mileage depreciation/service on a car you already own. Especially since it's all highway and the Santa Fe gets good gas mileage. And it's not like she rents a high gas mileage car either.\

When I asked her about it, it is all about keeping the miles off her car so it would be worth more later. It was a Honda Accord and now a Santa Fe, can't image THAT much difference in a lower mileage car of those models.

My partner has a Miata with 170,000 miles. I have a 86 El Camino with 357,000+ miles and a 911 with 167,000 miles. For sure just mileage is cheaper with old cars. But having a car quiet enought to have a normal conversation and carry the computer and 30 inch monitor is a challenge in our cars.

The business writes it off and it is easy bookkeeping.

My bosses wife got after me to fix the toilet NOW. Dang it, I did not even get time off from my job, I still have to finish up my regular job.

Wow, it sounded like a big raging gun battle or a fireworks show. It is Fireworks. No doubt Richard hears it as well. The university just north of us is having a big fireworks show. I can stand on my front porch and watch it.

Had a bunch of process errors at work. Just finished getting them fixed and notifying everyone when the fireworks went off. They were either celebrating a job well done, or may have just been a coincidence. I'm going with the job well done thing.

Have a safe trip. Show em you guys can do it better faster and less money does not mean lower quality.

Friend of mine did Macintosh tech support in Dallas in the 90's. Made a comment he had to charge more because his customers didn't think he was doing a good job if he didn't.

Being a full-time slacker is hard work. I may have to take an afternoon nap.

When Bro Bob was here this weekend he made the comment that he gets over 400 spam messages a day to his Yahoo email account. And asked me what I charge for email accounts on my server.

Asked him if he just deletes spam messages or clicks on the button to report them as spam. He said he just deletes them. Said sometimes uses the unsubscribe link in the spam messages.

Asked him if he had his name and email entered in the autofill part of his web browser. He said yes.

Told him that first he needs to delete all the auto-fill entries in his web browser so he has to always manually enter his name and email into web sites that he specifically wants information from. That any web site can get his information from the auto-fill in his browser in the background without him knowing it. They can then give or sell his info to spammers.

Then told him that ANY email he receives that is not from a friend or family and he did not specifically ask for to use the link in his email client to report it as spam. Says he often gets things he likes. Told him, don't care, if he didn't ask for it, it is spam, report it.

And lastly Never click on any links or open files in unsolicited emails, Never. And those links include links to unsubscribe. That if he is interested in a product or information that is in an unsolicited email, use Google and search for the product or information instead of clicking any links in the spam.

Told him that until he starts doing those things I would never offer him an email account on my server at any price. That his current practices not only get him more spam but would also draw unwanted spam to other users on my mail server's domain.

all very good points. Had to have the same talk with the mother-in-law over clicking on emails that she didn't ask for.
