I always wanted a Cherokee 6 to fly us around in. $135 per hour to fly though plus the annual and 100 hour inspections. It isn't cheaper than commercial, but there is far less stress.

Last time I flew commercial I immersed myself in a audio book uploaded to my iPhone and used noise cancelling headphones. Did the same on the 15 hour moving van drive from Harlingen TX to Holdenville OK. That moving van cab was noisier than the plane.

I like the unabridged audio books much better than the abridged ones. Don't know what it is, but they keep my attention better.

Trick is to make all the different files for a book a playlist.

Need to find myself a good set of wireless noise cancelling headphones.

On my last airline trip was from Portland to DFW airport. Within seconds of wheels up some 2 year old was screaming for her baba or something. The entire freaking flight non stop, until wheels down. There were thunderstorms in the DFW area so we had to circle for an hour for them to blow through so we got extra air time. When we landed it was late and all the restaurants were closed or closing. I hoofed it about a mile and found a sandwich shop about to close the door. I begged them to sell me the last two sandwiches they had wrapped up. They likely sat there all day. They were 17 bucks EACH and no drinks. I had to find a vending machine for something to drink. The airline had not fed us at all and we had not eaten in 12 hours. The other passengers waiting for the connecting flight we were booked on. kept asking where I got the sandwiches. I told them it was a mile away and they were closed.

I almost cried when I saw that little monster in line with us for the ride home to OKC. Sure enough wheels up she is crying for her baba. On the ground I was waiting for my luggage and saw the little monster asleep in her stroller. I really wanted to go over to her and lean real close and scream I have your baba! but I decided my wife would not bail me out of jail when I punched the father for not getting the little monster her baba and shutting her up.

At least the flight next week will be in the daytime.

UPS Tracking 1Z4F97260397230124
Says arrived in Boise today and will be there tomorrow.

Seems like a long way to drive one of those UPS delivery trucks.

If you fly with a full passenger load, and have time to sit and wait on good weather it can be less expensive. If you are renting you can't just fly somewhere and afford to have it just sit for several days while you are on vacation. If you own there is often a vacuum pump or an alternator will die and cost several hundred to fix. And an oil change, and a new new tire, or some other maintenance item need attention.

And if you own, there is a nice pricey hangar and 4 to 5 hundred per month, if you fly or not.

Several of the local pilot groups have a fly in to a restaurant a hundred miles away. They call it getting a $200 hamburger or burrito.

Guy at work joined a local flying club. They had several planes to rent. He joined to rent the Cherokee to fly his family of 6 to Kentucky a few times a year. Said it ended up cheeper than driving, but I find that hard to believe with all the flying he did to keep his IFR rating etc.

I'll wait no sense in driving that far only to follow it back home.

I ordered a new toy, um er tool that is supposed to be here Thursday. It is another Microsoft Surface laptop. It is basically and full ready to go backup to the flight computer. We will keep it ready to fly if the other flight computer dies or gets dropped or whatever. To be sure it is always up to date, I will use it as a laptop and for my travel computer. That will get the two of us up to 10 computers total. I really hope we can stop buying computers and equipment and get to spend it on us for a change.

We have one Surface as the flight computer now. My partner uses the old flight computer as his travel computer. His other laptop is only a laptop for Andre the giant. It is just massive and not really designed for that. It works great for going to a client''s office to show and tell. It has two video cards and 5 SSD drives in it along with 32 GB of ram and a i7 CPU.

My new surface is a i7 with just 16 gig of ram and a 256 gb ssd drive.

Yeah we loved the last round of computers we had here before the buy out. Now if I bought a boat and used this one as an anchor it would float.

My current 27in is 2560 x 1440. My laptop will support 3840 x 2160 which is 40in diagonal at the same resolution.

The downside is current 27in is pretty nice with built in speakers, mic, and camera for conferencing etc. They don't play that with the 40in monitors.

The bosses wife here decided long ago we needed a nice pretty office desk. It is massive, and very nice. I have room (just barley) for my 4K 27inch monitor, and the color laser printer-copier-scanner-fax machine. in the middle and a little 24 inch monitor hooked to the other computer. I have two full size tower computers, 3 battery backups and a lot of storage. There is a second attached desk on the right that I may have to expand into. I have to turn 180 degrees to see my TV and Tivo and amplifier.

Well, I noticed the Firestone oil change reminder sticker in the ML and somehow doubted they used the filter and oil MB suggests. I went out to Northern Tool and bought a vacuum oil extractor.
The filter in there was a Mann.....and looked horrible, so I'm figuring that Firestone didn't change the filter..

Got the old oil and filter out, a fresh Mann filter and almost 9 quarts of Mobil1 0w-40. She definitely is a bit quieter now.

Think my desk used to be some kind of a giant old partners desk that had two sides or something. My Dad cut it down and put it back together as a single desk to fit in our house when I was 3. Remember the day my Mom was painting it. That was the day I saw a Thunderbird.

The desktop is Masonite. On top of the drawers on each side is a pullout shelf. Use those for my mouse on one side and drinks and snacks on the other. Have a piece of matching masonite that fits on the center drawer pulled out just enough for a keyboard tray and is just the right height. Desk is a little deeper than I need but have room for extra drives, etc.

The weird thing about the old desk is no file drawer. Instead is has a door on one side with cubby holes for mail, etc. Would be a great place to keep a tower if I used one.

Found a desk I really liked 15 years ago. It would have been perfect. It was made by Stanley, but it was $2500. Looked again a couple of years ago and they no longer have it or anything like it. Guess if I want something to do what I want it to do will be better off buying a nice table saw and surfacer and make my own. Friend I grew up with works at the post office. As a hobby he made all the furniture in his house. Started in wood shop in HS. The shuff he made in wood shop was for his bedroom, but made it for and ended up being for his boys room.
