I think is is funny, and kinda silly that businesses that cater to kids toys or sell AA items have to put up with a line in the sales tax filing about their beer sales. Only a government agency could be so screwed up.

My guess is some Motorcycle Sales/Repair/Accessories/Restaurant/Bar complained it wasn't there forcing them to file more than one sales tax statement.

Jim, that is not a destination I have ever thought about. I bet you can find some old churches and historical sites there.

I managed to get the oil changed on the Elky. And even changed the filter and lubed the front end. There have been times I everything worked as planned and would have been a great teaching event. Today was not a teaching event, unless it was how to make messes. I managed to drop the oil filter into the drain pan. I invented a few new curse words and profanities.

It's been going pretty good. The only real drag is that I'm spending too much time commuting and with the sometimes longer hours at work it means I don't have much free time other than the weekends. The car magazines are piling up too fast. Need to get the home renno back into gear but Mom has started to get back into it. We need a new roof and would like to do solar panels (and wire for an EV) but need to decide between traditional and the Tesla roof that would combine the two. There's a girl at work that started around June. She's real fun to hang out since she's had a very interesting life (lived in 46 states, worked for the US ambassador to Russia or something) and she's a real firecracker to talk to. One of those friends you exchange insults with for fun. It's like talking to your best bro or something except she's a hot Russian (born here, but parents not, fluent in Russian) who dresses to kill all the time and likes to drink. Also she rides a Harley.

Anyway, eventually she found out about the 911 and I mentioned that no one from work had taken me up on the offer of a ride (I live far away from work and nobody likes to drive apparently). She expressed interest but I didn't think she'd actually show up until one day she says how about tomorrow?

So I took her on a tour of the canyon roads around Malibu and I have to say I've never seen anyone in that passenger seat talk so much. I thought speeding up would quiet her down but she kept talking and just enjoyed herself more. Of course being a guy and needing to pay attention to the road I stopped listening- not that I could hear much between the wind noise and engine noise inside the cabin. She liked all the super twisty roads that I would have gotten sick on if I were riding. She even likes the smell of gasoline and oil (explains why she has a harley).

So yea she's the only girl I know that would enjoy that car, roll cage and all. I think she's a bit crazy but I have met crazier girls that weren't redheads.

The next week I had to go rescue her after her radiator hose broke up in Castaic. It was a weekend with no traffic so I drove the 45 miles (took the back way on the 126) or so to pick her up (My commute is about 55 miles each way so no big deal). I took the Subaru which she had called an old man car the week before (she also laughed when I said I would drive a Miata). She said she had on a whim decided to go hiking in San Luis Obispo (she lives in LA and hadn't been there before) but when I showed up she's in a miniskirt and heels. I'm pretty sure I've seen this movie before. She got the car towed to a service station and worked her Russian girl charm on an Armenian mechanic to get it fixed over Labor Day Weekend.

In my head the whole time I'm just smiling and marveling at how different this situation is from what my life is normally like.

And no, there was no more to it than that. Though I wouldn't stop her if she started it.

She's going to come back and drive the car when she gets more manual gearbox experience.

My commute is just walk down the hall from the bedroom. I usually make it in my socks so no driving at all.

Maybe, there was actually another girl that I met on a hike (I've been doing a bunch of group hikes through meetup.com). I asked her out but she's genuinely busy on the weekends this month. She did express interest though. When I first met her I was a bit shocked because she seemed to check all the boxes and I thought she could be "the one" but as I've gotten to know her more I don't think so anymore. I am still trying to get to know her though. She's planning to move to Oregon next year so there's a pretty sure end point to it (that's not why I don't see it being long term though). I asked her out on the second hike we had gone on (we hit it off pretty well the first one) after we carpooled there together (she suggested it). We stopped for coffee on the way back at a nice place with some live music and it was fun for a non-date.

I was partly wishing it was a date with the Russian girl (I took her to a nice place in Malibu since she is not familiar with the area and we walked around on the beach) when she was saying how much she enjoyed the drive when we got back. Had it been a date it would have been the perfect time to make a move, but I don't want things to get weird at work if I'm not reading her right.

Dating co-workers is never a great idea, but it depends on how close you work together. If you are in the same office, it can get sticky. If it it just the same employer in a large office things are safer. If you supervise her or she supervises you, don't do it.

We've never had office romances that worked out where I work. They ALL ended badly. Most ended in the guy getting fired for harassment or sexual harassment whether he did anything wrong or not. Even had a couple of cases where the woman did way worse than the guy and/or egged the guy on until she got something she could get him fired for. One she talked him into sending the dick pic that got him fired. There was another where she sent texts that were way worse than his, yet his texts got him fired for inappropriate behavior and she didn't.

We did have one couple that did get married. They were told one or the other had to leave the company. No married couples are allowed to both work for the company. She left and they still ended up getting divorced a few years later. The no married partners rule saved the company any work related repercussions.

Have seen a few small companies where the wife was the husband/owner's secretary that did well. But the wife/secretary knew what she was doing and HE officially made all the decisions. Have seen others where it was obvious the wife was just given the position and had no idea what was going on yet still tried to make decisions AND that was a real problem.

Our company rule was set by the founder. His idea was if a wife ever worked her way to a position where she was supervisor or manager over the husband it would ruin their relationship. He did not want his company to be any part of that. He allowed spouses to both be share holders but not both hold positions within the company.
