WAKE UP!
It is Monday, and many of you are on Saturday duty I bet. Buncha sluffers. The mean boss's wife made me go out in the back yard, and we piked up dog poop, and some leaves. I was thrilled. I talked to my cousin again, she is still sounding drunk. I was going to go see her tomorrow, abut she now claims one of her best friend's kids died, and they are having the funeral on Christmas day. Yea, right sure. It is pretty obvious she just does not want to put on the effort to stay a little sober, and get dressed up enough to have guests. It is really sad, but there is nothing I can do to get her to want to stop drinking. She would prefer to stay drunk at home, on Christmas day. Just really sad.

So the wife decided that we (wife, son, daughter, me) would meet up with her mom, dad, sister, aunt and uncle after church yesterday and have lunch at the ........ wait for it ....... cheeeezecake factory at the Brea mall. shudder.
The most crowded time to have lunch, on the most crowded day of the year, at the most crowded restaurant, in the parking lot of the most crowded mall in north OC. What could go wrong? did I mention that the cheeeeezecake factory doan take reservations and has the world's worst acoustics? like a damn echo chamber. 20 minutes to get into the parking lot, which was full. 10 minutes to get back out. We parked in a lot down the street and walked. We asked, how long until we can get a table? I don't know. That was the answer, I don't know. Can ya at least guess? I don't know, maybe an hour, maybe two. After 45 minutes we had snagged two small tables in the bar area. Left the place around 3:30 pm, never did get seated. Just ate at those tables in the bar area. Over-priced small portion food and hours out of my life and it only cost me $300. Whuda deal. Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room. Bedsitter people look back and lament, Another day's useless energy spent. Impassioned lovers wrestle as one, Lonely man cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young. Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colours from our sight. Red is grey and yellow white. But we decide which is right. And which is an illusion? |

That sounds horrible Sammy.
My wife hates crowds more than I do. And she instantly understood my point of view, waiting for food and any restaurant on the planet, it stupid. There are more good places to eat than I can count. I have been forced to wait a few times because of meeting another couple, but not often. And going near the mall this time of year is simply not an option. There are a bunch of really nice restaurants clustered around the local mall. Just getting off of the highway and on to the access road this time of year is crazy. After the first of the year, we will venture out to that area for some nice meals. We can still go to downtown Edmond, and get some great Italian food, walk in, Friday night in the big town, be seated in 2 or 3 minutes, and have a wonderful meal. Their address is 1 South Broadway. Truly the corner of the very center of town. Easy parking, and great prices. The advantages of a small downtown suburb. It is in the building that was the first hospital in town. Dang, now I want some Italian food. There are many dozens of places to eat in downtown OKC, in the bricktown area. One big issue for me, ya gotta pay to park, to eat. Nope, not gonna do it, not me.

That sounds like it ought to be the official definition of hell, Sammy. Yeeesh!
Our son & DIL are coming over for Christmas dinner tomorrow evening. That’ll be fun, although it’s a bit of work helping with housecleaning and I the kitchen as necessary. I really want to have a Rosy the Robot for Christmas.

ain't them holiday family gatherings fun.
Trying to re-install Kodi on my AppleTV. They have a new feature where they are an Apple Developer and I can install a profile that lets it download and install Kodi and a few other apps including Safari for AppleTV. Well, that would be great, but it is not working. the URL they gave me does not install the profile. I accidentally hit reset instead of restart the other day and Kodi went missing. Presumably because it was loaded manually. Thought the profile thing would be better and not die if reset like the applestore software. Waiting for support from KodiTV to get it to install. If I get it installed will have to go back and re-add my add-ins. Been basically using only ExodusII with good results. Have been watching a lot of Japanese Anime with engrish subtitles on Crunchy Roll. Have seen all the shows dubbed in English. Have yet to pick up any Japanese. Don't think it is word for word translation on the subtitles. Need to get Kodi loaded and catch up on all the shows/movies.

Cool, my new toy, um er tool for work came in. Some Bose A20 noise cancelling aviation headphones. Gotta have headphones in the airplane. These are amazing, put them on and things are quieter like any headphones that covers the ear. Then I push a button and turn them on for noise reduction. Dead silence. It is amazing. I had been borrowing a pair of the older noise canceling headphones but I can't borrow something like that forever. So now for the 2018 tax year, I got my own. Thanks to the really nice guy that had the credit card for the company. His wife may make me pick up dog crap and wash her car, but he does like new toys, um tools.
These have Bluetooth as well, so I can listen to music from my phone as we fly if I want. It has a switch, both music and the intercom, intercom only or only music.

So I smile and go with the flow, being the soft-spoken easy going person you've all grown to know and love But it weren't all bad. My wife's aunt and uncle are retired piled higher and deeper types who worked in aerospace. Mostly military. She got her degrees in math but developed computer stuff back where there weren't much, and he was a physicist who developed radar things for the air force. Good, nice people. Very entertaining to talk to iffn you can keep up. They tolerate me but they love spending time with my son. Hey remember when that f-117 got shot down over Kosovo in the 90's? it was in all the papers. It was kind of a surprise 'cause the f-117 was supposed to be almost invisible. Soon after they came out with the next generation stealth fighters that are waaaaay faster and maneuverable and retired the 117s. On a completely unrelated note, they got this thing called DOPLER radar that can tell the direction of wind and/movement of moisture in the air. With a little tinkering, dopler could be tuned to detect a stream of air going across the sky, kind of like a WAKE. A wake that could be detected and tracked. With dopler. |

Feliz Navidad, y’all. Mother Nature has been kind enough to rain on and off since the wee hours this morning. It’s very welcome around here. I hope Santa’s been good to y’all! Glen, if your mean ol’ boss Insists you work today, make sure he pays you triple-time! Hey, the rain is back. Enjoy!

That is one thing I've learned managing my diabetes...Not overheating at holiday meals.
Not that it is enjoyable or "fun", but it does save me from that alka-seltzer, "can't believe I ate the whole thing" scenario.

'Welcome to the party, pal."
They had a 24 hour Christmas tribute to the Die Hard movie on cable, had to tape it and watch. It's the 30th anniversary. That went by fast. |

Good Humpday morning all.
We had a good trip up to Enid, OK for Christmas. My wife's side of the family. I did talk to my brother who lives in Alabama. And some of my cousins, around the country. We had a power outage last night. From 2:22 to 3:33. For the most part I was not worried about it, except the 4 battery UPS units were all beeping. So I had to get up, and power down all 4. I went back to bed, and shortly after 3:00 I remembered the alarm system has a battery backup inside the metal box in one of the closets. So I opened that, pulled the battery, and went to bed. A little while later, the power came on, and I fired up all the batteries. Ta Da. Not a real restful night of sleeping, but we survived. I could hear my neighbors automatic generator running last night. He used to work for the power company that provides power. I will have to see what unit he has, and what is costs. Every-time I look into it, I go from a $1,250 Honda inverter unit to a $15,000 Generac or equivalent system. Our power is just way too reliable to sped 15K on electricity for an hour evey couple of years power outage.

Not listening to any more Christmas music until next December! I’ll take the tree and outdoor lights down by next weekend. Time for a Happy New Year!
