Morning all. Kids are departing today to head back to college, last one leaves Sunday. The house will be empty again except the weekends when the GK shows up.

The master gardener slave driver wanted us to go to Lowe's to buy just 10 - 40 pound bags of soil. Without using a calculator, I figured that was 400 pounds plus moisture.

It rained the other day so some of the bags were rather wet, and the soil came out looking like a dinosaur left a deposit without any odor fortunately.

I knew 400 pounds was a load, so I aired up the air bags in the rear of the El Camino to 20 PSI. The guy loading at Lowe's just dumped and tossed in each bag on the passenger side as it was closest side. I felt a sudden drop on that side and suspect the old air bag blew.

We got home without issue, and unloaded it all.

Today I put the Elky up on my lift, and sure enough, popped air bag right at the top edge at the fold. So remove the shock, lower the suspension and remove the spring, and cut the old airbag out. To get the new one in, remove the rubber cap, step on the bag to partially deflate it, and put the cap back in place. Twists and wrestle the new one into place, and put it back in place and attach shock and done.

The Elky came with Monroe air shock from the factory to load level. They would not last a year without failure. They were warrantied, so it was free replacement just my labor. After the third set, I gave up and installed air bags, but then it requires a change to a much better shock, Bilstiens. So in the trash went the air shocks. I tried to go with just the old shocks, but the rear of the car was like a pogo stick with Monroe shocks. The Bilstiens work great.

So that is done. Next comes digging holes for the new plants she has already purchased.

Lots of rain here. Forecast is for 48 hours. It's going to rain quite a bit in NV this time too. las Vegas usually only gets 6" of rain annually, but it comes all at once over 3 storms.

Normally the storms peter out over the mountains to the east of L.A. Or they do by the time they cross the desert.

I think the CA drought is over but the lakes still won't be full by the time the snow melt is done. We really sucked them dry over the last few years.

We have perfect car wash weather, so I washed the El Camino. It was 74 degrees, and mostly cloudy. The Elky was really overdue a wash. Every time I was about ready, the forecast was for days of rain, or it was crazy cold.

Today there was no excuse, so it got a through wash, and vacuum inside and cleaned the interior and inside glass. There were a few spots of road tar I had to use WD-40 to dissolve, and then wax the area. It looks a LOT better.

So it got lots of attention today with new air bag, and clean up. Tomorrow I will "get" to mow the yard! Party on time.

It was a two full hours ordeal to get the yard work done. The weather was ideal, 68 degrees and overcast. Tonight is a rain and possible severe thunderstorms night.

The master gardener drug me off to the Koi pond place to get a new transformer for the UV light on the waterfall. It is all enclosed in a glass tube where the water is, and all enclosed in a PVC plastic tube. The old one lasted about 20 years. This time it was easy, just remove everything to the screw on connection, and replace with all new stuff. Plug it in and done.

Well.....

The weather is 74 degrees and 79% humidity. Fortunately the sun is blocked by clouds. It is gonna be some thunderstorms tonight. They moved the large hail area to include us in the worry zone. And the usual tornado possibilities.

We got a nice 1/2 inch or rain. Nothing more, And that is perfect.

I just renewed my PCA membership for three more years. That will take me to 51 years of membership before I need to renew again.

We finally have that bright ball of light thing in the blue skies. We had 4 or 5 days of cloudy. It may well be cloudy the day of the eclipse.

At 11:00 AM today I will do phase two of Parade registration. Pick the banquets, and tours. Two days of Parade, I will be at Barber motorsports using tires, gasoline and wear and tear on new Porsches that I don't own. Then on Saturday all day running my car. It will be interesting to see home much more braking distance my car takes compared to the new cars with all the go fast bells and whistles. I am pretty good at threshold braking.

One task I have coming up each spring is a change of brake fluid. This year it is time for new pads as well. They have a lot of pad left, but track days use up a lot and I sure don't want to run out of pads at the DE.

We got to drive back in the snow and slush yesterday. We were in Nebraska for my wifes grandmothers service. 4 to 7 inches and 45mph winds. WFH today since there was ice everywhere.

Can't wait to complain about the heat.

Weeee fun with email accounts!

I use Cox for my internet services. Long ago when I signed up, they let me have several accounts, so I had one that was my primary, and one I used with PCA and Porsche friends, one for my wife, and two others.

Cox has wanted to kill them off and get out of email. It was a pain to have to loog into the accounts and refresh that yes, I still want them. I still get email from people and companies that have never updated my contact information.

Well Cox, pushed off all those accounts to Yahoo. So I still have the same email, but Yahoo runs them. I had to log into each account, set up a new password and that was step one. Then to get them into Outlook, it was log into each one, and enter the info. Then I "got" to do it all over again to have them on my cell phone.

Finally I have them in all places. I have yet to do it one more time on my laptop.

I went to my dentist for the routine teeth cleaning on Tuesday. The dental assistant that did the cleaning was chatting about her garden. When I could talk I told her about my master gardener wife. She goes too the same place and she went this morning. Now I will be digging up asters, and some other plants that are coming up everywhere to give to the dental hygienist. She is coming over this afternoon to pick them up. I suggested we let her dig them up herself, but I was overruled. So digging in the garden is in my near future. I will be digging holes for new plants to go into the ground as well.

Phew.

I use Office 365 and it comes with Outlook 365. I now have all the old Cox email setup to be part of Outlook since it is now Yahoo. On the old Cox domain they made it dang near impossible to use Outlook. It was easy to set them all up on my iPhone as well.

Wow, what a challenge to get the Turks Cap plant out. I had to use a sharpshooter shovel, and Mattock and a 4 foot pry bar to get it out of the ground. And then of course the master gardener wants it cut up into quarters. It is a solid ball of roots, and swinging the mattock gets tiring real fast.

The she say, or while we are out here, lets dig up this other large bush. Golly gee can we!

I was one pooped geezer after two hours of that. A nice nap and all better now.
