I am sure it is a safety "feature" that the manufacturers are required to have. It may well be a government mandated thing. I always thought it was silly, and I like getting the keys out while the engine runs.

My old 914 had a worn down key as well. I can't count how many times I left the engine running, yanked the keys, hopped out, opened the trunk and took the roof off or put it back on, while at a red light. Hop in buckle up, and be ready to go before the light changed.

I always kept the rear trunk in the locked mode. The button could be unlocked and remain unlocked so it was just a push button, or it could be locked, and only opened by a key. I kept it in the key only mode. I often had camera equipment back there.

The targa top in the rear bonnet was also an often stolen item.

All our cars still use keys but three have keyless entry. The fourth does not have door locks so I guess technically it has keyless entry also. No remote start on any of ours, though it would be handy here int eh winter time to start them a few minutes before we leave.

When my cars were parked in an unshaded lot all day, often thought about remote start that would turn on the A/C and roll the windows down for those hot summer days.

Watching sports, the F1 practice tonight. Mrs Carrera is watching other people play some some silly game with a large ball and really squeaking shoes. They keep throwing the ball at a ring a few feet in the air. It only goes in about half the time. The ring has a fishing net hanging from it but no fish or water in sight. They all can jump up and just shove the ball through, but for some reason they prefer to throw the ball from several feet back instead of just poking it through. Dumb game.

Our escape has the fob that you just leave in your pocket. Can even open the hatch with the swipe of your foot under the back bumper. I love the remote start in the hot summers.

The Macan has the same key Porsche uses on all models. A 911 shaped big fob. It is all rounded and fits in my pocket. I fully understand the appeal of that. I just HATE the size of it. My entire set of keys is smaller. Anytime I stand up, I pay my pockets out of habit. The keys in the front pocket are first checked. When we did a two week vacation in Alaska, I had my keys. They did not fit anything within 1200 miles, but I had em.

The F1 race tomorrow should be interesting. Nice to see the Haas so far up the grid.

Weird finish to the race. Lots of good passing.

Wake up everyone. Back to Monday morning.

Gotta finish up figuring how much of my income to send the government because I have income. I know how much to send my accountant, that was painful. Now I need a big tub of KY to get ready for April 15th, and I know it will hurt.

I was FORCED to go to Harbor Freight yesterday. I need to remove the rear seat back on the 911. It has a large flat head screw that hods the seat back in position. From the posts in the technical section on Pelican it is a challenge to get it out. So I bought a tool I have never used before, a hammer screwdriver. Just whack it with a hammer, and it rotates the screw out, or at least breaks it free. I will test that soon.

The little leather tab that holds the set up, ripped in half. The seat needs to come out to replace the tab. Pelican sells them, but I am not paying $74 for two inches of black leather, with a snap on it.

Those little hammer screwdrivers are handy Glen. Particularly good for getting stuck screws out of drum brakes. 🤣

I've got a cheap electric torque wrench that lets me put blades as well as sockets on it. It is the kind that spins up then hits it. Has worked well the few times I have used it to loosen up stubborn screws. Mostly used it to change wheels between street and slicks back in my wheels swapping autocross days. It was handy having an impact wrench the plugged into my air pump battery.

That's another thing, My portable air pump back then was a Craftsman. It finally wore out and have not ever found one nearly as good. Hate to get a legitimate air compressor just for the few times I top off my tires.

I have used those screwdrivers before. Seldom messes the screw up either where hand pressure alone can make a mess.

Richard, I don't know if it is me or Pelican, but did you get my reply? Keeps popping up there is a new PM.

Em is on the high school trap team and the first match is tonight. Should be interesting.

Sunny, blue skies, and just cool enough Carne Asada for lunch was very good. Brother got Tortilla Soup. The bowl was so big he took a quart home.

We haven't had carne asada since Christmas. Made that and special quesadillas. And sangria.
