Here is unretouched photographic proof of what Glen claims. Got a picture of a cone chasing my 944 Turbo at an autocross....

This was the mess left behind from my cone attack. A bit of wax, and it is 100% gone. Lots easier than the fix for when the deer attacked me in California. That took a pile of money, and some paint and body parts.

There's a 5:00 AM???

I go to bed at 10:30, close my eyes, and most nights vanish and it becomes 7:15 AM. Sometimes the dogs bark at the packs of velociraptors and have to chase them off, but that usually only takes 30 seconds or so. Sometimes my bladder decides I need to make a quick trip to the comfort room.

Actually on my last airline trip I had to get up at 4:00 AM, get to the airport by 5:30 and wait for them to take off. I did not get to my motel room in DC until just after midnight. That was a fun day.

5:00 AM sucks, sorry David.

The local police frown on that.

Back in the late 1980s at my first job in Oklahoma, we had a Christmas party at Christmas time of course.

We still had several bottles of booze on the cabinet in the kitchen next to the coffee pot. All of our customers knew the coffee was free, and many partook. One of the customers was an old man that had even worked as a line boy for Wiley Post. Anyway, he poured a cup of coffee, and stopped at the 3/4 mark on the cup. He then reached for the whiskey, and added a healthy does. It was 8:30 or so, and he was headed outside to shoot photos. He was likely in his early 80s at the time.

I have to say, I have never had my coffee expect black. I have never tried the various flavors or creamers sugar or sweetener, and for sure not whiskey.

One of my friends never drank before noon on day to day basis. Except if he went to the lake. For some reason, when he was at his lake house he would start drinking beer when he woke up. He would be hammered by 1:00 PM and just stay that way until the morning they were going home. I could not do it, even when I was in my 20s.

The week long ago at my pitiful garage apartment when the water pipes were frozen. I had no water and back in the late 80s bottled water was distilled water for steam irons and batteries. To brush my teeth in the morning I had to use beer. It was impossible to cook anything. I had to scoop up snow and melt it to flush the toilet.

We watched the movie Gettysburg the other night. 4.5 hours of movie. Filmed at the actual location. They showed photos of the actual officers and the people involved. All the actors had way less facial hair than the reality of the men they were portraying. The civil war was for sure an era of many man facial hair. Thick bushy mustaches and beards were common.

That was the battle that Lee showed he was not so brilliant after all. It still took two more years for his defeat. I remember the feeling of awe at the numbers of men that died on the filed in front of me when we went to Monassis. I have not yet had the chance to go to Gettysburg.

G'day all. 'twas a lovely weekend, though more lovely than I thought on Saturday. Should have borrowed some of that sunscreen even though it wasn't that sunny or warm. 84* yesterday but I stayed in the shade.

My business partner stopped by and we delivered some prints to the FAA. Like most people would we pull up to the guard shack, and his is as friendly as a bear awakened from hibernation and starts yelling at us to do a 180 at the designated turn around area and go over to the visitors center building. So we whip a U turn and park in the lot. Go into the front door through the metal detectors and over to the guard on duty behind the desk. So we tell him the number of the person we are there to see, and and they have to give him what look like numbers or some code that I could not see. We both have to hand him our driver's license and he scans them, and writes down information, and fills out a lot of information on two lines of a sign in sheet, for each of us. We then have to sign our names.

He then hands us our visitor badges that he wants us to stick to our clothing. OK, back outside to the car, and drive through a circuitous route to yet another guard shack, and that guard wants to see our driver's license. He finally lets onto the campus. We were privileged to have passes that said no escort necessary, and we find the building we are to go to, and then a parking spot. Off to the building, and up three flights of stairs, down a long long hall to the right room. We finally go into a large office area with a receptionist that knows we are coming and she points us in the right direction to the office.

They want to see the prints of course, so we go to the conference room and unroll them on the big table. Ta Da. They are happy.

I remember "back in the olden days" when the main road that runs through it was still an open public street. No longer. I guess it really does make sense to have a high level security for the FAA home office. Several of the offices we walked past had large red signs on the door "restricted area" so we avoided sticking our heads in and yelling "Hey guys whats up? I figured those doors were likely locked anyway.

We wanted to go take a run down the airport taxiway, but thought maybe not today.

Yea, conveniently "Club Fed" a federal prison run my "Con Air" is right there on the campus. It is the really high security area that I am positive I never want to visit. They transfer prisoners all of the country, and stop of there for a layover. My long stay at DFW was very pleasant in comparison.

Security at the FAA was much laxer when my HS class took a tour back in 1976.
