It was low 70s here today. It must be spring, the first roads are singing in the Koi pond. It sounds like two different ones. There is lots of algae for the tadpoles to eat. Then the koi eat the tadpoles. We get just a few baby toads per year max. Survival of the fittest, or luckiest.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. The reason for the filemaker solution in the the first place? Got tired of spending all my time manually entering and updating user data in Active directory from the HR database waiting for our programmers to put together a solution to automatically update active directory.

Singing roads in the koi pond? Did you break into the bosses beer fridge again?

Hahah. Funny typo.

The TOAD was singing all night long. We had a bad outbreak of bearded algae when the pond cover was on. We scooped out a lot but the rocks on the bottom of the pond are covered in algae. The fish might eat it back some once the water warms up a little more. They quit eating over the winter when the water temp is really cold. With a few more sunny days they will get to eating and act as biological lawn mowers.

The roads are singing to me and calling the out 911!, drive the 911. I can hear em.

I am working with an old software package we have to keep using because some of our customers like the files it makes. One of the neat functions it can do it the most convoluted and hidden thing I have ever know in software. First you have to click an obscure icon on the tool menu in the area off to the side. That brings up a long list of different tools, all with logical names, but not needed often. Then you scroll through the list and find "samples" that brings up a couple of choices and one of them is data management. Open Data management, and one of those options is file management, and that brings up a list and one of those is batch re-project. Then you can work your way through the menus and do the reprojection. Mostly I use it to re-write the header of a raster image that has been edited. Other programs have to load the entire file, (this one is little just 1.6 gig) and then write a new version, and that sucks up time and hard drive space.

It is a great tool that should be front and center, but they buried it for some reason.

Nice partly cloudy, mid-60s day here. Nice day to work in the garage or putter in the yard.

The mean bosse's wife came in my office and interrupted my work. I was to play step and fetch and tote that bale, lift that barge, and help clean up the back porch for summer. So everything get hauled to the grass, the porch is swept, and hosed off. We have two ceiling fans on the back porch. The glass dome for the lights had to come off, and the blades were real dusty. Clean the windows, and so on. The screens were 25 year old, so we had them re-done, and I "got" to put them back up.

Dang I was happy to get back to work.

Had an old database that had features none of the current databases even do. The main thing was you could perform calculations on new records and change them BEFORE they were saved on import. Now I have to import the data into a field, then have another field that is a calculation and changes any time the referring field changes. That old database was from when the Mac ran the 68000 CPU, think it was only an 8hz processor too. It took 24 hours to import the 30,000 user database of my brothers state sentate district from the previous voting records database.

Hi all

Long time no see been busy with life

I've had an interesting week....got called down to head office for meetings and flew down to Adelaide on Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon at the end of the day I'm told I have a meeting at midday Thursday with HR. WTF! That's never a good thing to hear.

So, more meetings Thursday morning, then comes this 'special' meeting with HR. I enter the conference room and here's my program director along with two HR bods (no sign of any immediate project management)...WTF!

And the conversation goes something like this (but less blunt)...'your position is redundant, we're giving you five weeks notice, and a 5hit load of money'.

Jeez I didn't see that coming. It took all my skillz to not wear a 5hit eating grin on my dial while they told me this.

So, as of the 9th of May I'm semi retired. I'm setting myself up as a consultant in the long term, but for the first few months I'm getting some stuff done around the house that's been neglected for too long.

Well, you have been practicing at retirement for years. Congrats on the 5hit ton of money, and happy sumo retirement. I know one guy that was asked to retire, did, and then got hired as a consultant by the same company and worked less and made more money.

I sort of expect a similar thing, knowing what work needs doing at the project level. The director is clueless and I'm surprised he still has his job.

Jeff, congrats on becoming redundant! I'd hate to be necessary to an employer. It's much better going from retirement trainee to journeyman retiree. All the best to you!

Consultant is OK, too. But retiree is the best!

Congrats on the early out/load of money and hope it fits in your retirement $$ plans.

Years ago they offered early retirement to civilian workers, 56 years old at the local Air Force base. They gave them enough money it was only $100/mo difference in their retirement if they did stop working and worked until retirement age, 67. Most everyone took it because they spent more than the $100/mo just going back and forth to work.

Wow, the toad in the pond must be a Horney Toad. He has been singing non stop for 3 days and nights. He does not sleep or take a break.
