Unfortunately, while I love CAD, I no longer have any CAD programs to work with to help you out!

Some of our clients still use AutoCAD for their companies. One of the services we provide is a contour lines that would show the topography of every change in elevation over the clients area. We also do the line drawing of very ground object in the customer area. So every bush, utility pole, parking lot strip, footprint of a building, curb, manhole and on and on. Mobile objects like cars or trucks are ignored.

And some of them are still using AutoCAD from 20 years ago and those need a spatial add on to deal with the positioning of where the site is on the planet. More modern version work with it just fine. We also make point clouds. Those are cool. It is a literally a point in space with a precise value for the X,Y and X position, and the RGB (visual color) of that point. If you zoom back it looks like a photo, zoom in and all it shows are points with positional information. It is easy to rotate them and look from the side or even underneath them.

Those point clouds are huge. The can have billions of points and get silly big. It was 56 gigabytes and just a monster.
From the metadata: LIDAR POINT COUNT=1,711,583,314
(So 1.7 trillion points)

the drawings I'm working are simple 2D 11x17 files. They average 250k in side. I just have 1500 or so to get thru.

Used to do CAD. But has been a very long time. Software has gone out-of-date, and computers have moved on as well.

I am sure AutoCAD like most high end professional programs has more features than virtually anyone know. I have used Photoshop since they bought out Aldus Photostyler and it came on floppy disks. I still am not expert. Like many programs one can become a certified expert in it. It is not like I get a raise if I learn more features I will never use.

I'm not certified and no I will not get a raise for getting certified. I'm supposed to be learning Revit and I already know there will not be a bump in pay...………….

Remember when autocad took a computer with a lot of horsepower and you were actually coding fortran to draw the picture.

Also met the guy that did the core coding for autocad. His house looked like a shack from the outside, but the inside looked like a million bucks. It was like two completely different houses.

Good morning all.

We had a good time at the PCA Valentines day party. We had a two couples there married over 50 years. The longest was 57 years. Two couples were just married 4.5 years ago.

The winery is new, so they mostly sell other brands of wine. They did win some international award for canned wine. One can is about the size of a Red Bull can, and it is a new category of wine people can expect to see on store shelves as all the big brands fight for market share. It makes it easy for the winos of the world to have a glass of wine and not have to open a bottle.

I have never tasted a single wine and thought it tasted good. I prefer beer.

Hey Brent, I presume you have heard of HostBridge Technology. It is a Stillwater, OK company. There was an article in the local paper about them they have the tech to bridge gap between legacy mainframes, emerging mobile technologies and regular computer networks.

I was just curious what an IT pro thinks of them. Evidently they have contracts with large credit unions, and medical offices for their interface from mobile to large computer systems.

Actually I had not. Probably because I have not messed with a mainframe in a couple decades. Looks like they provide a bridge for mainframes to communicate with APIs so they can remain relevant in the world of networked/cloud computing. Other than that, I don't know much about them. Sorry.

I did try to find an IT pro and ask his opinion, but we have none here!

It is a COLD morning here. It was 18 when I got up. Clear skies, so no ice. Somehow the weather is screwing up and the weekend is supposed to be mid 60s and clear skies. Normally that nice weather starts on Monday.

The Tardis is what his house felt like. He said he didn't spend any time outside so he never bothered to fix it up. And yes the way the landscaping is overgrown and the positioning of the house it does look a lot bigger on the inside than what it looks like on the outside. I suspect he would think it was really cool to compare it to the tardis. Impressed me as quite the computer nerd.

Almost as much as a guy here in OKC that had a shop called Wordsmith. He had one of about every kind of computer all with no cases. He tansfered the voter records from a mini computer reel to reel tape to a Mac text file on a floppy. Then I imported the records into a mac database for my brother whom was running for State Senate. Took a whole weekend to import all the records. Then export in like chunks for his Apple II. That printed lists ordered so he could use them to walk down on one side of a street, then back on the other and know whom lived at each address if they voted in the last presidential election and if they voted Dem or Rep. Also did address lists for mailing election propaganda.

Freezer finally quit making ice. Put ice trays outside last night and got 4 trays of ice this morning. It is 28°F right now. Get new fridge 3pm monday. It's 40°F in both fridge and freezer right now. Looks like will have to go buy ice at the local Sonic till Monday.
