Get off my lawn!
|
Yea, I set the trash and recycle bin out the night before. Sometimes they come really early but here recently it has been afternoon. Back in the olden days the home owner had to supply their own trash cans, and they picked up twice per week. I got on the WORST schedule, Mondays and Thursdays. So every single possible holiday was a Monday except of course Thanksgiving, and it was Thursday. I get screwed on all the holidays, and there was no make up day as they were coming back in a few days anyway.
Tuesdays is the best day for trash pickup for sure, as the holidays don't fall on many Tuesdays and if it does they pick up on Wednesday.

We are trying to determine what food type I should go hunt and gather this evening. Looking at menus is just flabbergasts me that right now in Oklahoma it is LEGAL to go to a restaurant, and order a Margaretta or other mixed drinks to go. They will hand you a mixed drink while you sit in your car!
When I moved to Oklahoma it was illegal to buy liquor by the drink period. The "work around" was you told them your name was Johnson or Smith, and they went to a bottle on the shelf with that name on it. If the place had been busted a few times, they made you bring in a bottle and they served you your own alcohol. No we can get a mixed drink handed to us in the car. I can go to the local convenience store and have them hand me cold beer in a 6 or 12 pack right into my car. Amazing times we live in. In 1933 when Prohibition was repealed it did not apply to Oklahoma as the state constitution prohibited alcohol. I was not around back then!

prohibition smohibition. When just 3, Dad took his Dad and I out driving around "in the country." Dad stopped at one point and put a jar with some bills in it on a stump beside the road. We then drove around looking at various farms and they discussed how they were doing and what new was going on. After a while we stopped back at the stump and the jar was there full of clear liquid instead of money. Dad and Grandad called it Grandad's stump water. Grandad put it in a stoneware jug and drank from it for medicinal purposes. Had a swig every morning as his feet hit the floor and every night last thing before his feet went under the covers.

Went to an auto museum in Rolla Mo. The basement of the museum was a period machine shop all ran by belts off of a steam engine. They restored old cars the way they were originally built.
What I thought was the coolest car was a 1926 Oldsmobile SS. It looked like a two seater chity chity bang bang with a round hood and wooden boat tail. It had wood spoked wheels but there were aluminum discs bolted to the hub and rim. It would go 90 mph. Fast for 1926! They said it was used by a local family to run booze in, and it made that family a lot of money.

It is even more amazing fact that I can call a liquor store, and have alcohol delivered to my door! Only during the shutdown so far, but I bet that law changes bat to permanent.
I will finally get to wash the El Camino this weekend. We have had rains or foretasted rain about every few days. It is hard to motivate myself to wash the car, and have it get dirty in a day. With a week of no rain in the forecast, I will clean it up. It is not filty, but I have had to drive it in the rain several times, and it needs a bath.

Saw one of those chef ramsy things where the restaurant's bar was the only thing making money. And that's because the staff was hanging out in the bar during and after work.

Jeff, hows is the solar setup working for you?
After our recent encounter with the power company employees I wonder how they can deliver electricity so cheap. The neighborhood association has an electric meter to run the sprinkler system. It is a huge panel, with one circuit of 115 volts. The meter is set up for 220 but we don't need that. The meter noticed one leg of the meter was not functioning. They sent three different crews over several weeks to find the fault. First a contractor, then a real employee, then the three man crew with the most sophisticated equipment. They still not find the fault. Then they sent a new crew of two to dig for it. Still no luck. Then they called another real employee, and explained that 110 only was fine. A supervisor showed up, and agreed it was OK. So a few days later another two trucks show up and they spend an hour talking. Same drill 110 is OK, and they were skeptical anyone would be OK changing a meter from 220 to 110. Again, it is not for a house bla bla bla. The finally did replace it, after 4 hours of fiddling. I bet well over 12 men, and 200 work hours spent on that one tiny problem. No cost to us at all. OG&E is one of the top ranked power companies and they are great, but dang they burn money.

Got a little while to go before it pays for itself, but I’m pretty happy with how it’s chipping away at it.

Moring all. Day 28 of working from home. I might be up to this even when lockdown is over. We were supposed to be moving out of our current office to a new one in May. Now that its been a month we may just go in clean out our areas and return to working at home for a bit.

When you sit at a computer, run a program and do the work the only real difference is what computer and equipment you are using.
The big question, are you OK with working from home. They are using your electricity to run the computer, but that is almost sure to be less than it cost you to drive to and from work.

You know I thought of that a few weeks ago. This is great for business. No electricity no heat. We the poor employee's are burning it at both ends at home. My normal commute is about 10-15 minutes so I'm betting its costing me more to work from home.

The IRS allows 57.5 cents per mile so if you are driving 10 miles each way, that would be $11.50 per day just to drive, and 20 to 30 minutes of your time.
You can get an electrical power meter for under $20 to measure the real power usage of the computer and monitor. I bet it is way under 10 bucks per day for the computer system. I can run the AC in my garage for about that much on a HOT day and AC is higher demand than a modern computer system.
