Good Morning, for reals this time.
Well there went my outdoor lighting savings. Getting one of those plug in electricity usage meters. Decided since the street light is out front will quit turning on the outside garage lights unless I'm expecting someone and save $48 a year. Will continue to do the porch light thing. Going to use the meter to determine if home automation will be fiscally viable option instead of just getting a timer switch for the porch light. After some research the best option seems to be using software and dedicating a computer. That way you can mix and match all the different controller network types. That means the system has not only got to save enough to pay for purchase of controls, but would have to pay for a computer to sit there running 24/7.

Watched Jason Bourne.
Think the director had near sighted ADHD. Action scenes were zoomed way in. poorly lit. and jumped around a lot. So if you go see it, try not to blink. Otherwise I like it.

Morning
Our city schools first day of school is today. Let's see, the schools are low on funds so they are starting the school year earlier making the school year have a higher number hotter days requiring more electricity to run the A/C. Sure, that makes sense. They don't teach anything about balancing checkbooks, budgeting, or running a household so why would they be able to manage the school budget. I wonder for the entire city school system what the electric bill is to have the school open on a 100°F day versus and 80°F day later in the spring. They claim the A/C is on all summer anyway. No wonder they are having money problems. They say they want to start the school year earlier so there are more teaching days before the standardized testing in the spring. Let not move the testing dates to the end of the year they claim is difficult to teach kids anyway.

Hey all!
We installed the shorter coil springs in my friend's Merc AMG yesterday without incident. It looks much better. Also, got to drive his 09 Merc with AMG package. What a sweet ride! I was kidding him that it's more of a doctor's car than a school teacher's, though. ![]() He has a 03 911 Turbo as well but we didn't take that out. I've been fortunate to drive that several times and it never gets old. It really makes the case for getting a water-cooled 911. Just doing laundry and running some errands today. Hopefully, wife's boss is going to take his cycle home tonight.

![]() He has every receipt and service record since it was new. The original owner was in the service and bought it new in Germany and then imported to the US when he was stationed back in the US. Like a very original 911 it's a time capsule from 1984.

That is odd to start school so early. MI passed a law some years ago that public schools cannot start before Labor Day. The tourist $$$ they would lose is the reason given.

Speaking of A/C, how often do you guys change the furnace filters? Our cold air return is upstairs and feeds directly into the filter but they get dirty fast. I change ours every month. They are the thin 20x20x1 filters.

Sweet ride.
Some people assume I have a huge stack of receipts for my cars. I don't. I do the vast majority of the work myself. I have a little notebook that I scribble what I did and the date and mileage for the El Camino. That notebook is almost full. I will have to start another notebook soon. For the 911 I just have electronic notes on my phone. I don't take the car in for service, I just do what is needed, usually way before the recommended service interval. I did an oil change on the El Camino yesterday. If my count is right I have done that over 100 times now. It takes me a couple of hours to do an oil change even with my lift. I never do just the oil change. I always lube the front end with the 6 grease zerks. Invariably I see some other item that can use some attention. I found one wire that the clip had failed that holds the wire in place and out of the way. I fixed that. I always inspect all the suspension parts and the brakes. I always look around for coolant leaks. That vehicle has only had more strange coolant leaks that I can remember. Of course it is the only vehicle I have ever owned that uses antifreeze and a water pump. I check the power steering fluid level and inspect those hoses. It just goes on and on. That is why I felt no qualms about driving 100 miles each way to Enid, OK on Sunday with a car that had 346,000 miles.

I have a reminder on my thermostat that tracks the hours the fan is on and displays that the filter needs changed. The default is 1/3 usage or 8 hours per day and 90 days or 720 hours (had to look it up). They look like they need changing. It's about every 3 Months according to the dates I write on the filters when I put them in. Mine has 2 returns with filters each is 12x24x1. They both look the same dirty to me when I change them.
I can set the reminder for up to 2000 hours. The thermostat also has a clean air mode that lets me set times other than when the heat/ac is running to run just the fan. The defualt is twice as much.

I just set a reminder on my cell phone calendar. Every 4 months. When I replace the filter it is only a little bit dirty.
