Oklahoma is a great place to be from. I’d never move back! 🤣

I have a problem with projects, I just love collecting them!
Picked up this little VR6 Jetta for $600 today. It has a known busted coolant pipe. Sounds like it did get warm and may need a head gasket. But it runs super smooth with no smoke and no milkshake…. Sooo?

There is a big high pressure cap over Oklahoma right now. It will move off soon and the humidity will go back to normal soon. The official high yesterday was 90, and it was the first 90 of the year.

I have been to 44 states, and seen a lot of crazy hot places and some crazy cold places. Overall we have a good average. No doubt San Diego and the cost of California have a win for the best weather. Way too expensive and WAY too crowded for my tastes.

Still loving life in San Diego, temps finally into the 80s this week.
Pool has been above 90 for 2 months with solar heating.
Trick is to enjoy San Diego (Zoo, beaches, Sea World, Balboa Park, restaurants) on the weekdays and shelter in place during the busy weekend tourist traffic.
Sad to see families spend their 2 week San Diego vacation expecting a sunny day at the beach during May (Gray) or the June (Gloom).
The Ocean is nature's air conditioner but also provides the thick cooling cloud cover called the Marine Layer.
Marine layer is Not to be confused with a Camp Pendleton prostitute.

I know my 50 Plumerias would love the OK heat it's just your winter freeze would kill all our succulents.
At least when it's too hot or too cold in OK you can buy cheap gas and drive in light traffic.
Now if only all the local desert race tracks could move to the coast too.

That looks and sounds fantastic, Ted. But I'm with Glen. This place is too crowded and expensive for me. I'm out of here in 4 years. As long as the real estate market doesn't crater here (relative to where I'm moving) in that time frame, I'll be good.

Where will you go to leverage your home buying power when you sell your LA home?

15 years ago I had a week long meeting in LA.
Monday morning the group first discussed our meeting schedule.

When do we break for lunch?
The LA locals in the meeting suggest we be sitting down and eating lunch by 10:30 or we will never find parking or a table.

When do we end the meeting each day?
The members that lived east of LA and commuted from Ontario indicate they need to be on road heading home by 1pm or they will be in heavy traffic.

So meet from 8 to 10:30.
Lunch 10:30 to 11:30.
Meet from 11:30 to 1:00.
Sounds like a full day, lol.

We loved visiting San Diego when we lived in El Centro. The only problem with living there is it is a large city, but if I had to live in a large city it would be San Diego.

We had a client that lives in a small apartment in NYC above a speakeasy. He was floored when he came to visit us on business and saw my house and my business partner's house. There are nothing that special, but my living room is twice the size of his entire apartment and our house was paid off many years ago. He does not own a car, as a parking space is even more money per month than our house payment was.

We took him down to Bricktown in downtown OK, and he was really impressed.

The San Diego zoo is pretty cool, and that aviary hose was just stunning. They had the bears on display in old pits like our zoo had in the 1950s. They have nice natural exhibits for the animals now here.

Once again the dinner on the USS Midway deck was just fabulous. The weather was like being inside a convention center, yet we saw the stars, and the light of the downtown buildings. Something possible only in San Diego.

Bricktown looks lively, like the Gaslamp restaurant area here.

I like the horticulture at the SD Zoo, Fern canyon has 100+ year old palms and ferns.
Africa rocks is a newer area with many exceptional succulent specimens.

My favorite view was from North Island/Coronado at night looking across SD bay towards downtown SD.

When we went over to Coronado I saw the bridge has a ton of toll booths, but everyone just drove through and did not stop. A local said they paid off the bridge and stopped the tolls. That stunned me. We have a turnpike from Oklahoma City to Tulsa that opened in 1953. It has paid for itself more times than I can imagine and it is still a toll road.

Mrs. Noah is from New England, so we're moving to her family's neck of the woods. Unless I want oceanfront property, I can sell my home here, take our equity, and pay for a larger/nicer/newer house (in a nicer neighborhood/community, as well) on Cape Cod with cash. No more mortgage. No more rat race. It'll be semi-retirement.

One of my friends is a retired California district federal judge. He bought a house back in the late 1960s and one day two guys in expensive suits showed up. They wanted to buy a corner of his land for a new golf course they were going to put in. They offered him a nice price for a corner of land and said in the sales contract he would have a house along a fairway and they gave him a lifetime membership to the club, that was transferable.

When it came time to retire, he was stunned at what his house was worth, and he discovered that the lifetime membership to the club was worth a cool million. He knew some mega rich person would bulldoze his little house and build a big mansion on the property.

He sold it all and moved to Oklahoma and bought one square mile, an entire section of land for his house. It was all undeveloped, and he had a nice house built near the middle, and cleared only enough trees to have a house, and the trees far enough back to have a house and barn and a firebreak & pasture for his horses, and a road. He keeps it as a nature preserve, and has tons of deer, nesting eagles, fox, rabbits, and every forest critter possible. He sets up and loves taking photos of "his wildlife" from his back porch.

One of the local developers kept pestering him to sell some of the property and he told the guys that the no trespassing signs are not just for show. He filed police reports on them and told them if they come back, he will shoot them.

I don't know. I might have been willing to sell the land for $2,000,000 per acre plus $100k per square on the house. Outbuildings would be free in the deal.

He is in his dream home, and does not need the money. His kids can sell off the land when he and his wife are dead.

Phew, I finished off the oil change on the 911. When I drained it, I walked off with it dripping, and mowed the yard, and all that fun. Ate lunch, then started the refill process and left each bottle draining for 45 minutes to an hour, just to get all the oil, and I was not in a hurry. I put in 9 quarts as usual and stopped. This morning I took it for a short drive to warm it up, and checked the oil. It was just at the tip of the dipstick. Add one more quart, it was at the low mark. So quart #11 and it is at the 1/2 mark and perfect.

I went to pick up a customer print job at the local print shop we use. One was a 40x60 mounted so the Macan was pressed into service. That of course means I will have to vacuum out the cargo area since it got a few white specks from their cutting area. And as a added bonus she "let" me fill the Macan up.

I would have to build some sort of print hauler box or blanket arrangement to haul the prints in the El Camino to prevent the prints from sliding around, or blowing in the wind.

Well, some 2x4s, 4 or 6 inch conduit, ratchet straps, tonneau cover, eye bolts and a couple hours should take care of a way to haul them!
