Phew, I just ran a couple of errands. It is humid and hot outside. The trusty ol Elky kept me cool, and itself cool enough. The temp gauge is easy 10 degrees higher than reality and reads 220. So 210 ain't bad driving through traffic and stopping at long red lights. I was glad I had the new antifreeze and everything working well. If I check with my infrared thermometer, it is always lower than the temp gauge.

I think I may need to replace the accumulator and the orifice valve, as the temps were only 45 to 50 degrees for the AC output. With lots of air blowing on me I was plenty cool, just not cold as it should be. It will cost about 35 bucks to replace the accumulator and the orifice valve is 3 bucks at most. A few o-rings that I have on hand and just labor. Recover the refrigerant and reuse it. Maybe top it off if necessary.

I will also have to run the AC cleaner through the condenser if indeed the orifice valve is full of crap as usual. Dang 35 year old AC systems seem to get dirty somehow. It should be blowing 38 to 40 degree air on max blower setting.

I was looking at the free space on the various drives and noticed my RIAD was down to 3.9 TB of space and wondered what was using all the space.

My backups of drive C: and my work drive was using 5.1 TB of space. Every backup for the last 12 months was still there. I changed that to delete stuff older than 30 days. That will free up some space.

I totally understand the usefulness of a laptop. Heck I have one. But for real computing at home or the office when travel is not the primary need, why not go with a desktop or tower?

They are totally easy to replace a component, and they usually have better CPUs and bigger hard drives and are a lot cheaper.

My computer is very heavy and as far from a laptop as possible. My laptop is a Microsoft Surface. I can't even add more memory as from what I understand the memory is soldered in place.

Why is preferable for companies to want a laptop. I guess they are easy to ship and no cables to connect except the power cord, but what makes a company prefer a laptop?

Just curious.

OK, that makes sense, you and the computer travel for the job. It is a logical reason. My laptop is really my "company laptop" and I use it on photo missions. We have two laptops that are pretty much the same. Mine is the backup in case the regularly used one has a hiccup or dies.

My business partner has two GIANT killer laptops that would burn your lap if you tried to put them on your lap. And your legs would loose circulation from the mass of the laptop. They have twin video cards, and multiple hard drives, and huge displays. They can process the aerial photo missions in a decent time for smaller projects.

Sounds like a winner for 3D CAD. Not these computers they are better suited to process work documents.

Yea, he can merge multiple LAS point cloud files and have all the different classifications of objects. Some are insane numbers of points.

Might be cheaper to get a laptop with a GTX3080 than it is to get a discreet 3080 to drop in a tower right now.

problem solved. It won't let me login to the computer the first time till its on the VPN. Well it won't use the VPN till you get on the wifi and internet.

Found a problem with their use of onedrive. If both computers are still on the net you can't delete from one and not watch it go bye bye from the other. I pointed this out to the IT guy who had not thought of that................

Oh darn, it is 72 degrees here this morning. August first, and 72 degrees, and the high is forecast of 80. Love it.

Wow, August 2nd and it is 67 degrees. We are expecting low humidity, so the next few days are going to be awesome.

My new battery powered leaf blower arrived. I blew out the garage, and in Turbo mode, it really blows as hard as the the US Congress. The battery charger is monstrous sized. I really did not want to put it on my worktop. I ended up cutting down a scrap 2x4, and screwed it to the side of my workbench in a spot that was unused space. My workbench area is kinda overflowing with tools. It is a nice problem to have. Anyway, I have it mounted out of the way and ready to roll.

That inspired me to mount one of the other battery chargers on the back wall of the workbench so it is a lot less space used. The old 9 volt and 18 volt chargers for the other drill drivers are still on the work bench.

I ended up using the chop saw, the drill press and the drill driver to screw the boards and the charger into place.

Morning all. Nice relaxed weekend. Did a little CAD for Slodave. Played in the garage and tossed some more stuff out of the storage units.

At my last photolab job our back door went right into a storage facility. To park in back we had to go through the gate at the storage facility, and we shared a dumpster with them.

Often we would be go to throw trash into the dumpster and see the storage folks cutting the locks off with a chop saw and open the door of a unit that had not paid their bill. Most of the time, it was just trash, and old spider infested mattresses and worn out filthy sofas, and just trash. It just blew me away anyone at all went to the effort to move trash to a storage facility, and then pay money to store it.

It must be a profitable business, as there are storage facilities everywhere, and if you call about renting a spot, they are full. Just amazing to me.

yep you can only imagine the crap I have found and send to the dump. We have reached the point where there is a small 10x10 unit that I am filling with trash and going to call the 800-junk people to come get it.
