I can go 500 miles in my 85 911 on one take of gas if I drive just the speed limit. I have done it many times. If I kick it up the average speed most everyone is going it drops to 450 miles.
On the track, I can lower that to 8 MPG. Almost all WOT, or on the brakes, and at Charlotte Super speedway for a HPDE I was hitting 130 or so, and I used 3/4 of my 21 gallon tank in three 20 minute sessions on track.

On road trips with the wife, like the trip to Lake Placid and back, 3,800 miles total distance. It is pretty much 24 hours of driving each way. With the wife on board, we broke it up into three days. Two days were 9 hours and one 6 hour day. If I had gone solo, I would do two 12 hour days and save motel costs.
I know if I want to go to Flagstaff, AZ to the great hotel, it is 911 miles from my door to their door. There are a many stops for bladder relief. Once I get to I-40 which is just a few miles from my house, it is easy navigation. Just stay on I-40 the entire trip.

3800 is a lot, especially as one gets older
I used to be fine with 1500 km on my own, just knock it out of the park then hit the pub Those days are OOOVER Le mans return trip 1000 km kicked my butt.

It was a 12 day trip for the 3,800 miles.
Next year is Boise, ID. Only 3,500 miles or so round trip.

Tags for the Cobra are Hobbyist plates. $275.
One time fee and there are restrictions. I can't drive it in January. Would be a little cold with no top or side windows anyway here in WI. The 1971 911 were Collector plates one time fee. Similar restrictions.

My insurance on the 911 is Agreed value, for 5 times what I paid for the car. I have agreed value on the El Camino for just a bit more than I paid for it back in 1991. It has restrictions that I can't drive it to work. Since my commute is 12 steps down the hall that is not much of a restriction.
Also I have a mileage restriction of 5,999 miles per year. Again, not much of a restriction for me with no commute.

I have accepted that I will have to up my game. and probably spend some cash on a pro ceramic coating job

That is what is so great about white cars. Especially with a fresh ceramic coating on it. At parade in Lake Placid, NY it rained every day except Tuesday. I never washed my car in the 12 days of driving, and it still got compliments on how clean it looked.

ordered me some JBL speakers to improve the Cayman base non ASK/Bose audio
![]() One advantage of getting another 987.1 is that i know it inside and out.* I know what it needs, what works or doesnt. I already know how to snake the wire, where and how. 12 volt for USB power.. I have known sources. none of it is a mistery. Its like coming home. You already know where the coffee machine and the filters are. Got Oil, tranny oil, all filters, plugs, belt, disks pads, its all inbound.. There will be Serious TLC in the beginning of August It doesn't need maintenance according to seller cause it had maint last september. I beg to differ. I want to know first hand that its done and done right. After a day or 2, I've introduced Bim Diesel to the Cayman. Like with cats, those introductions have to be done carefully, not rushed.

![]() ![]() Last summer I asked my business partner to design and 3D print a clock ring and it has a inductive charger for my phone. I can Bluetooth streaming music to the head unit, and if I am using the navigation app, it interrupts the music, and speaks and shows the directions. It worked great on out Lake Placid, NY round trip. I have the Blaupunkt head unit that looks great and it fits an old car perfect. ![]() That phone mount was a previous version from Rennline, with no inductive charging, and it had the phone low enough that I kept knocking the phone off when shifting. Our 3D printed version is way better. At the bottom of the photo is a 3D printed water bottle holder. He printed it, and I insulated it with expanding foam, and painted it to match the interior.

My Prius was the last year for the wired CarPlay so I never use the wireless charging....which works out because it's also one of the years when Toyota completely failed at making usable wireless charging...the charging pad is usable about 50% of the time...as long as the car is in park/not moving.

My wife's Macan has Apple Car play. She does have to connect the phone to the USB port in the center console. Then the display in the middle of the dash will work to operate any function of her phone.
My 41 year old 911 has a head unit that connects via Bluetooth, and works great, but the car is way to loud to make or hear a phone call. I don't even try. If I am driving, leave a message, I will call back later.

Bim Diesel has a great chassis, in 3 door form its very 944 like(better backseat tho). With the back seat down, its like a mini station wagon, almost as practical as a 44 (44 has wider hatch , can fit a 911 hood). This particular one is gutless tho, 3cyl 116hp,260nm, its not going to win any races, but as a daily to get to work or shopping i don't need more than that. It handles well, brakes and corners well.. Its a quiet cabin and has 200 watt factory sound system that I think is alpine components.. I could get it chipped, they can easily be bumped to 150hp and 350nm but there's little point to that.. I have the Cayman to satisfy such needs

It looks like I will be doing my 207,000 mile oil change on Tuesday. I 'get" to mow the yard tomorrow, and that is usually 2.5 hours of sweating and walking and working. That is enough for one day. And it will be in the mid 90s while doing it.
The garage has AC, so the oil change will be done in comfortable conditions.

They talk real funny up there.
![]() When we went to see Plymouth Rock. I pulled into one parking lot to see if that had a space. The attendant was impossible to understand, and I had him repeat himself three times. I asked if I can just do a 180 and leave and he said yes. I found a spot on the street for way less money, and no issues of communication. And the rock is nothing like I had imagined. Just a little thing.
