Had a beer can I hit cut a tire like that, but the slash and resulting flat was pretty much immediate.

Used to find straight pins in the sidewalls of my slow leaking tires. Guessed someone where I worked didn't like me. Stopped after the word got out that I had money for sports cars because I was single and not way over paid. Sometimes the rumor mill is a good thing.

Max I would not doubt you.
You know more than me on the subject.
However arter talking to guys that race these thing and the trans guys.
Changing the gears is the only option.
I will defer to Matt on this. When you change the gears you can change each rpm drop individually, rather than reducing them all by a certain percent. And the amount you can reduce them with final drive changes is limited.

My point was more that changing the final drive does change the rpm drop between gears, since it sounded like you were saying that it did not do so at all.

Both cars now have slashes in the sidewall? Or was the Landie done prior to buying the Jag? If it happened with the car sitting it was a slash. That is a big gash and it does not look like a tire failure like delamination or something that would start with a bulge.

A friend of mine has this exact car in race form (Jag XKE coupe, white cream '67 coupe (not a 2+2): sitting for 7 years now with engine ready to go back together: he's lost interest: should probably sell it. :/

That would be a neat toy, but a likely money pit.

The Landy happened late last year while sitting in a parking lot. I noticed this when the tpms told me pressure was low. Took it by the dealer, they're ordering the tire and covering the cost because they aren't sure it didn't happen on their lot. The tech said it should be ok to drive on until tomorrow as long as I stay off the interstate...

Not really the XKE's were quite simple: 4.3l, inboard brakes, Koni's glass nose (weight reduction), lexan, etc: was quick, clean car. Dyno'd like 285/314 back in the late 90's if memory serves: was pretty reliable to him. I could get some photos if anyone's interested.

And squirt some super glue in the wound first, then the duct tape.

A rotting bass can get stinky. Better get it out of your pants soon!
