Something had to go, so I made my daughter a promise never to touch another drop. It wasn't until a few days after I quit cold turkey that I realized I was going to be in trouble. The Dr. took my drivers license for a week and I was in the office every day having blood drawn to make sure I wasn't going to have a physical shut down like the mental one I was going to have to go through. The last ten years of my drinking my blood alcohol level was never zero.
I still like the humor that goes along with the drinking, and this July will be eight years sober for me.

Hi Jeff, did you do the Barossa, Rutherglen wine area? Yum. One of the problems with the posting to the states is that the wine cellar will have to go back to a friends place, whilst we were in France we stored all our reds with a friend, and we still haven't picked them all up, but unfortunately our friend passed away in a helo accident a few months back, and now we will have to go get the stash, as I am not sure his family will look after them and not drink them for another three years. He had a great cellar, the former owner had dug under the garage, all lined and looked like a hurricane cellar. water sump pump and all, it was all lime washed walls and looked the bees knees of cellars.

Well done Rick, that takes a lot of intestinal fortitude.

I'm fortunate to be a happy drunk, but over the years I've tempered and rarely write myself off these days.

Jeff I think that is the same for most of us, we certainly do not over imbibe these days, only got so many brain cells, and we aren't getting any younger, alzheimers awaits!

But a medicinal glass of wine with dinner is supposed to be good for you, right!!

It looks like we've run out of time to do McClaren Vale and Barossa, we've traveled along the coast prety much all the way (Victor Harbor now). We did side track up to Naracoorte/Penola and the tasting tour was at Coonawarra. Very yummy reds and a few good whites.

We get into the Barossa frequently so it's not that big an issue to miss it this time, and we have touched the edges of McClaren Vale before also. Never been tasting in the Coonawarra before - we'll definitely be back. Reds sat really well and we've shipped a couple of cartons back home while we were at it

BTW, I'm happy to look after your wine collection. Just ship it across

Yup, Sharyn copped a dose of DVT a few years ago. She certainly calls the reds medicine

The meds (rat Poison) did bugger all by themselves. Her INR didn't move until she had one generous glass of red every evening.
