I do use Wiki or Google to confirm that the moment of inertia or elastic modulus or yield strength I think is correct is really correct on homework, though. It is easier than searching a paper book. You can still use Wiki's sources to help finf your sources. So Wiki is still useful in that regard.

Welll..... Dad may not make it home from Atlanta. For the trip to work, he needed to be able to fuel in Memphis, and he just got word that the fueling station there is broken. Unless this thing actually has a 400mi range, and he really babies it, he will run out of fuel somewhere between Birmingham and Little Rock. I think his best bet will just be to get a tow in that case.....

Hey, it was mostly an opinion paper for English. And the prof liked my writing. I just used Wiki to figure out what was going on like spark notes or something. Then got some quotes from the books. Wiki had some background history on the culture discussed in the book too. Not like I just copied Wiki.

I think it is mostly the Professors admitting that they use Wikipedia too.

Hey, I think it's totally OK to use Wiki and the internet. But I'm of the opinion that you can't state that as an official reference. C'mon, look at all the garbage that gets posted as gospel on PPOT (or even this Stijn thread
). You can use it to point you in the right direction, but you also have to know where to find the answer in a reputable resource if someone inquires. That it's now becoming acceptable to use sources like Wikipedia as references in schoolwork (you're not the first one to have a prof/teacher say it's OK) is a reflection of how lazy we've become, as a society. Who cares about knowledge anymore, when you can look it up? Who cares about using reputable , peer-reviewed resources when you can just check the interwebs? You know, there will be times in your life when you actually need to know how to fly the goddamn airplane, instead of just looking up how to do it for the first time while the thing is hurtling to the ground. (OK, bit of an exaggeration, but you catch my drift.)

Ha ha, Jim. I agree to a certain extent with Noah but whether we like it or not, that is the sign of the times and either we fight it or learn to make it work for us.
Good thing I am not a professor.

I don't really see all the Hate on wikipedia. For the most part it is an accurate source....

The point is, that any old dingbat with an internet connection can look up Wiki, then take the sources mentioned there, and write something that sort of resembles a paper.
Where as the whole point of the education is, that you learn to find things, and learn from that. - If any old dingbat with an internet connection can do it, then why bother with that expensive college education? - What happens when your internet connection goes down.... do you still know how to find something, or do you be come a dingbat without an internet connection?

There will be times in life where you won't have internet access (even in modern-day society). Perish the thought, but it happens all the time--and will in the future, too. Do you just throw up your arms and write off the day? It's as much a thought process thing, as it is the actual knowledge itself.

Well if the internet was down for the whole time until the paper was due I guess I'd have to actually read the book.
For engineering stuff you need to or end up memorizing a lot of things and you can't just read Wiki to really understand it, though the Wiki stuff can really be very high-level once you have a class in it and can understand what they are saying. I takes orders of magnitude longer to do engineering without a calculator. Now a computer with MATLAB is becoming another computer. And with FEA it is to the point that computers are the only realistic way to solve many problems.

I think it looks like her leg is huge because her other leg is partially visible and is blending in to her leg in the foreground.
But that butt still looks out of proportion.
