My rough plan is an 8 inch barrel, chrome lined FN 1:7 twist so you have over one complete revolution before the round leaves, carbine length buffer and the sig sb15 'brace', low profile gas block, free floating hand guard, BUIS and an EOTech of some variety for primary sighting.
I really don't know that much about the 5.7, just that it can pack a punch...

I think the main thing you need for the AR pistol is the tube for the recoil spring to replace the stock, and then its just a matter of finding a short barrel and the appropriate accoutrements!

The buffer tube from a carbine stock can be used, you just can't ever assemble the actual buttstock piece onto the buffer tube....that would be a federal offense. So, you're left buying a whole assembly and throwing away the stock to make uncle sam happy...

PSA makes a few short barrel rigs...but I think their shortest is 10.5 so I'd need to have it cut down...which is a PITA if the gas port isn't far enough back.

Honestly, out of a true pistol, 5.7 is really not that impressive. You can get far more penetration and cavitation out of a 9mm with much more readily available ammo.

You also have to have a lower that is designated as a pistol and never be able to legally put a real barrel on it and I have asked this of people before but why in the world would you want a 5.56 pistol? That kind of defeats the who idea of that round. Just sayin'

Noah, hardy har har!

And Sidney, I am glad you think I am a nice catch. And encourage you to buy a Boxster because I like them as well. I get to reap the benefits if you get one...

G'day!

Having trouble choosing a bathroom vanity for the reno

What type of sink, a mixer or tap (fawcet) combo, a kick or legs, three draws or two, single cupboard or two, or all draws?

The only thing we've got sorted is the size of 900mm, and not wall hung.

Good Hump day folks.

Since I am getting the tires mounted on the wife's car we had to swap vehicles today. It always amazes me how different a 80s car instruments are compared to something from this century. That Infinity dash looks like a brightly lit space ship game console compared to the dim yellow lights of the 911 or the Elky.
They are having a bit of a rough trot at the moment over on the east coast.

A small water bomber crashed this morning while fighting a fire near Ulladulla, only to start another bushfire at the crash site - no survivor

Morning Everyone!

I was told that I need to stop procrastinating on wedding stuff. I keep telling her we have plenty of time.

Andy, as a guy I learned that weddings just plan themselves. Just show up on the designated day and your part is done. Just remember the line "I do"

Jeff, I saw in the paper that the original fire was started by a military training session.

And Jeff for the bathroom reno, just learn the phrase "yes dear" and let her pick the style and what she wants. That is a win win. She gets what she wants, you don't have to worry about what it will look like as long as it is functional.

Good morning everyone!

I just ordered a brand spankin new lower and parts kit from Palmetto State Armory.

You can put any size barrel you want on a pistol, just can't have a VFG, bipod or stock. Also, according to the ATF, you are free to convert your pistol to a compliant Rifle at any time, but you may not convert a rifle to a pistol. Talking to the guy at Palmetto State, he said they have quite a few guys who have AR 'pistols' until their NFA stamp comes back, then they'll slap the stock on to make it an SBR.

Rick, I'm also very seriously considering going with a 300 AAC upper. 5.56 works fine out of an 8" barrel, but the 300 almost seems to prefer the shorter barrel.

One of my friends was always drooling on the full auto AR-15. The local gun store & range has them available to rent. You have to use their ammo and their range of course. You can turn cash into smoke and splattered lead at a very rapid rate. He went down there and had fun for 15 minutes and got that out of his system.

Like many expensive things in life renting is sometimes enough to decide that owning is not the best option.

I've fired full auto in various platforms.....in an AR platform it juat isn't practical....suppressive fire from the AR platform needs to be thoughtful and well executed.......now suppressive fire from ma deuce. .....that's beat achieved in the spray and pray fashion.

Andy, no! Don't tell her that! She will get annoyed with you. Follow Glen's lead. Just agree and say, you are totally right babe! And then follow her around while she does wedding errands or looking at stuff in magazines. And if she asks a question, key thing is to pick something specific about about what she is pointing out and make a statement about it. Doesn't matter what it is. Because you didn't give her a generic guy answer and said something specific she will think you are engaged and listening. And if she doesn't agree with your statement and says, "but honey, really? You didn't like that?" Ask her why she likes it and she will tell you and you follow up with, "now that you point that out, yeah, I see what you are saying... Yeah, let's go with that one." So, in the end, she thinks you are engaged in the conversation, she gets what she wants while thinking it was a mutual agreement and hence the most awesome fiancée ever, and you are off the hook with minimal involvement/work/fighting/etc.

And Sidney, don't read this.

Short version:

Nod your head smile and say "yes dear, that would be great"

Will you really truly care if the flowers are white or red or the font on the invitation is one or the other fonts?

My wife decided we needed new kitchen and bathroom counter tops and new tile for the bathroom floors and walls. I really do not care at all. As long as they are waterproof and low or no maintenance.

She made me pick out her new tires because that is "a guy thing"

No. You can't just say yes dear. That's is why I spelled it out for him. If he just said yes dear, he would get his butt kicked because she would know he was just patronizing her. That is why I gave explicit details. Andy, I am a woman, giving you advice on how to speak to a woman. Take it or leave it. But I don't want to hear any complaining if you do otherwise.

Believe me, I have more guy friends than girl friends. Why? Because I keep them married by giving them the inside scoop. Otherwise their wives would have left their butts long ago.

LOL. Marriage wisdom. Tweeze's 7-line paragraph condensed into the take-home version.

Unless it's the dreaded "Does this xxx make my butt look fat?" question. Then nodding your head and mmm mmming "Yes dear" is NOT the correct answer. But you'll learn that with time (and a couple nights on the couch).

This is exactly why men still fail when women tell them exactly what they want. Men don't listen. If you don't see the difference between Glen's version and mine other than the fact it was longer, God help you and I will just send you on your merry way.

Men... Try to help them and they dig their own grave.
