Wow. Huge orange moon sitting just above the treetops on the way to work this morning. (No pic b/c I was on the bike.)

The moon can vary in apparent size by about 14% total. It does seem to be bigger when it is just above the horizon. Every time I really look at it I am amazed that humans have been there.

Ever notice how popular cheese has gotten since the visit to the moon? Coincidence?

I liked the sliding glass targa in person. Pictures, not so much.

New one needs a wing on the back, but then again, I like wings on the back.

I have been a huge fan of the space program ever since I was a kid. I have always liked cheese. Coincidence?

It's the space aliens they found on the moon....they're controlling our brains...

Aliens can't be controlling my brain, I wear aluminum foil lined underwear. And never drink Koolaid or Tang.

"Normally," the tin foil protects the brain by being installed on the head. Are your saying that your brain...

It's been explained to me that the apparent change in size of the moon is due to perspective/frame of reference. Close to the horizon, there are familiar objects (i.e. trees, buildings, mountains) to give us a perspective of the size of the moon. But when the moon is up in the sky overhead, there's no frame of reference. On our retinas, the image is the same size. But in our minds, it appears larger on the horizon. Despite "knowing" this, I still have a hard time tricking my mind into thinking it's the same size in both instances.

I think it is more likely due to atmospheric refraction. Which, by the way, allows over the horizon radio communication.

I've always thought that the mark of a good aesthetic design is when a car looks good even without a rear spoiler/wing. That's when the designers have hit a home run.

Or course, I say that as an owner of a 930, with that cartoonish sushi tray in the rear.

I like the new targa. I don't know if I like it enough to purchase it over a coupe (were I in the market and had the funds to do so--which I don't). But I like the attempt to pay homage to the 911's past.

I am most likely wrong on this. I looked at a few articles on this subject and they want to dismiss this explanation. So, the optical illusion explanation is more likely.

Max and slodave are probably waiting for my words of wisdom on the subject.

Long long ago when I was dating I was explaining that to a girlfriend at the time. She got mad at me because it was not just a romantic moon.

Of course she was convinced moonlight was way different than sunlight. I tried to explain that moonlight is just reflected sunlight but that just made her madder. I finally decided it was best to shut up if I was to have a chance to achieve my goal that night. I was starting to understand a few very basic things about the female mind. It would likely be terrifying to really understand the female brain.

Jim, one thing the San Fernando Valley has (in addition to porn) is great sushi. Here on Ventura Blvd (effectively Main Street for the SFV), there have got to be 2-3 sushi restaurants per block. It's a pretty high standard of sushi in this neck of the woods. Come on up sometime and we'll go have a feast.

I've always felt that way too. The 996 or 997 targa seemed like a slick design.
