I noticed the back up lights were not working on my 911 and of course the first thing to check is the bulbs. Wen I took off the lenses the inside of the reflectors showed evidence of water damage. The seal was had as a telephone and very cracked. I ordered a new set of seals and figured it would not be a big deal to replace the seals. That was a mistaken idea.

What a pain. I got the old seals off easily but the new ones have to be carefully glued in place when the reflector module is disconnected from the body. Getting the reflector back into position and aligned is a pain.

But the question is did you remember to replace the bulbs too?

The bulbs were burned out because the switch is shorted and the bulbs come on whenever the ignition is on. So that is the next project, swap the switch. It is in a real inconvenient place. It is gonna be a bigger pain. I may go over to a buddies place that has a lift to get at the switch. I have to get me scissor lift installed in my garage soon.

I had to change one of the brake switches on the master cylinder to get the brakes to work. I will change the other one when I get a 22 mm offset box wrench. That sucker is buried back in there.

When I did mine I used a deep socket and I turned it out (and back in) by using a pair of channel locks on the socket

I also may try a crowfoot socket. The socket and Chanel locks I something I will remember. Getting it torqued to exactly to 13 Ft lbs with Chanel locks will be tough but a bent 22 mm wrench will be tough to torque with precisely.

You for a torque wrench that goes that low? Mine doesn't go below 20.

I do have a small inch-lbs torque wrench, but has been 50 years I know of that it hasn't been calibrated. When I was in college rebuilt and Audi motor. Thought the in-lb wrench was ft-lb. Torqued those rod bolts down to every bit of 44 in-lbs. Made it 300 miles before it threw a rod through the block knocking the fuel pump clean off. Remember going to the salvage yard to get another motor for $700...they showed me the motor running with it on a fork lift with a battery hooked up and the coolant lines going into a bucket of water. Sold it right after swapping the motor and got a used 77 Cutlass Salon.



After spending the last 3 days removing paint from trim, painting, going up and down a step stool, and crawling around on the floor, hurt all over. Feeling very old.

Good Morning folks.

Richard, I have a beam style torque wrench that in in inch pounds. I just divide by 12 to get my ft lbs. It only goes up to 350 inch pounds. It might not be spot on but it is better than I can guess. I used more force on the wrench than I would have guessesd 156 inch/lbs is. I would have under torqued it.

I might be able to get it with my 7/8th deep socket and a swivel joint to the torque wrench. I figure I want all the options at my disposal before I attack it.

I did get to go drive around in the 911 some yesterday. Another 50 or 60 miles and I will consider it broken in. Then it is happy time - red-line here we come wheeee.

I drove it to work today just to get some more miles on it.
