Sweet! But will the wheel base handle a 4ft PVC sticking up out of it?

Front bumper cover is pushed left about half an inch and is pressing against my headlights in a bad way. It's raining today so I am not going to mess with it but tomorrow I will pull the cover and straighten everything. I am just glad the radiators didn't get clipped.

Rick, I know your pain. My poor 914 had each of the four fenders flattened over the years. Four different events in different parts of town and all four times I was not even in the car. It was legally parked in a normal spot and some low life would flatten a fender and then leave. Never once did I even get as much as a note that said everyone watching thinks I am leaving you my information but I am just screwing you. Every fender cost $500 or more to fix. I did not turn it in to my insurance because I knew it would just jack up my rates.

Good morning normal folks. Good Evening Jeff.

Good Morning.

Hope the Boxster is an easy fix. I hate people that do that also. When my Boxster S was wacked on the nose a used bumper cover and paint to match was $300. When I had the 90 928 GT someone whacked it and all it did was leave a small crack and hole in the rear bumper cover that was almost unnoticeable. Never fixed it because the only rear bumper covers I could find were $1000.

Woke up yesterday with a blind spot in my right eye. It is in my peripheral vision, but annoying as heck. Like a bug is flying around just on the edge of my vision that flies away when I try to look at it. Eye also go blurry and started burning. Went to eye doc...blood vessel popped and reduced my vision to 20/60 in that eye, and 20/40 in the left eye with my glasses on. Doc says left eye is just being sympathetic to the right eye and the same thing may or may not happen in left eye. Go in on Friday for some kind of laser treatment on right eye that is supposed to clear it up.

Years ago I had some dingle berry scrape the front bumper on My El Camino. It looked like someone took a rough grinding wheel to the very corner of the front bumper down to the core. Again no note so I can only guess what happened. My best guess was a dingle berry pulling a steel trailer turned to sharp. It happened at a Home Depot parking lot. As usual I was in the far part of the lot far away from the door. I had to have the bumper re-chromed. The bumper place was just going to swap it out with some cheap replacement. I said hell no. Fix this one and I want that very piece of steel back. The OEM bumpers are a much higher quality of fit and thickness.

It was astonishing how much better the bumper looked after re-chrome. It had become fairly sand blasted over 160,000 miles. That was 150,000 miles ago and it is looking a little sand blasted again. You have to look REAL close to see the pits. Certainly not worth another re-chrome yet. The rear bumper has never been re-chromed.

This is the third time my car has been smacked. Beth had the car at Toys r Us and some dip wad in an SUV backed over the front bumper cover but stopped before they got to the hood. There was a witness but they neglected to get any info on the SUV. Beth had the car at her sisters and that wombat backed square into the drivers door (how the F she couldn't see that whale parked broadside behind her is a mystery) and now this, where beth was involved but not driving.
Yeah Beth needs to stay away from my car, even though I did buy it for her

My Cayenne has park assist. It starts beeping whenever I get within 18 inches of anything and there are lights on the dash and rear view mirror that tell how close and which corner. You can turn it off, but it comes right back on the next time you cycle thru park. The thing that is wrong with this system is that I've only had the Cayenne for a few months and I am already used to the park assist in a bad way. The beeping goes off any time the car gets close and you are traveling under 5 mph, every time I pull into or out of my garage, at drive thrus, and parking in parking lots. The only time I pay any attention is when pulling into the garage I know which light lights up to let me know I am in far enough to be able to open the rear hatch with the overhead garage door closed. Otherwise it is just annoying. So, basically after only a few months I don't even hear the warnings any more.

When I see those ads for cars with all the lane warning and auto stop before you hit a car right in front of you features and they save the driver that is not paying attention, all I can think of is people will start relying on it, then get used to it so they don't hear it any more, and become even WORSE drivers. It's okay for me to text or do anything other than pay attention while driving because my car will automatically stop before I hit something, Right?

So, from my observations and personal experiences, there are going to be a LOT more parking lot accidents. And even worse, more people not paying attention and running lights, going off the road, etc.

And I can already see it happening, I see more and more people putting along doing 30 in a 45 because they aren't paying attention and don't even seem to notice EVERYONE passing them.

And while I am ranting...

What is it with the I'm stranded people approaching me in the grocery store parking lot these days? Seems like once or twice a month I am approached by someone with an I'm stranded hard luck story needing money for gas to get back home. When my niece was in college she would stop by every so often on a Sunday evening and ask for gas money to get back to school in Kansas. I went to college and could understand that, and she always sent me money to pay me back. But these are grown @ss people. Some of them driving very nice vehicles too.

My MIL bought a 2014 Nissan Rouge. It has all the lane assist and backup cameras and even side view cameras. I figure it is for people that can't drive or park. She loves all the assist things and she has always been horrible about backing up. I heard her mutter "show off" when she was a passenger in my car. I parked in my same garage spot like I do every day. I back in the garage because it is the easiest way. The garage is on the side of my house and backing in is faster with the parking lot setup the way it is.

Subaru now has all that "I will drive for you" crap and I detest it. The instructor in NJ said he followed a family member down to Fla and all he did was turn all the crap on and set his cruise for five over the car he was traveling with so it stayed right with them. He only had to worry about steering. I called him a lazy, self important, non thinking moron of the electronic age. Yes I did pass that class but Tony (the instructor) don't like me much, especially when I told him I would take the prius I was driving and run circles around him.
The more you take control away from people the more reliant they become and the less learning they have to do.
Autonomous cars are going to be here very very fast and us dinosaurs who actually know how to drive and react are going to be considered dangerous.

I for sure PREFER to dive my old cars.

BUT...

I can see the usefulness of an automatic driving car. I would love to have some add on package that could drive for me on long trips. It would be handy to just take a nap or read and send email while "Otto" drive the car for me. It would be great for the vast majority of commuters I saw going from San Jose to Monterey, CA.

I guess I need the autopilot from the movie Airplane. I do want a different inflation method however.

I only want "Otto" pilot for the boring interstate stretches. I-40 going from where it begins in Bakersfield, CA to the end in North Carolina is bumpy and for the most part boring. Near Kingman, AZ it has some cool bluffs. In parts of New Mexico it is at least interesting. If you like rolling hills Texas & Oklahoma will be spot to watch. Eastern OK on east is just a bunch of trees. I have done it too many times to ever WANT to see it again. I would love to take a nap or surf Pelican while the car drives.

Next year I "get" to drive I-44 once again up to St. Louis, MO which is another road that sucks. I have driven through St. Louie several times. I am sure I-64 over to French Lick is not much more exciting.

In 2016 when I come to see Pete I will get to see some new roads.
