So does that mean you can't go in that room of the house if you are off work?

I hope not, have not moved my "office" to it's own room yet. It does mean I can ignore all the emails asking for help though.

Evening Y'all
Well out 10meg dsl is gone and we now have 25meg, much better. beth stayed home today for the service to be changed and I get a call because there is an issue with the line and the guy needs to run a new one from the interface box to the jack....................Lemmie talk to the guy.
He say that standard solid phone lines will not handle the 25meg service and that I need to have cat five run into the house...........................
Hey Buddy have you bothered looking at the job before you said that? ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........no.
Yeah take a look at that new cat5 cable that runs to the interface box to the jack. Just drop a modem and go away

Rick, I just off off the phone TWICE with tech support for my internet. As a double bonus points item the both OU & OSU are playing stupid games against colleges no one has heard of. It is only on pay per view so I had to fight with all that call volume to even talk to tech support.

The second call I got a tech smart enough to reset the IP address and my router found it and I am back on line.

I have 7 wireless devices and 6 devices with Cat5 connections through a switch. And that is at HOME.

OK, enough geek-nerd for the day.

The thing that I don't understand is why the hell they want a cat 5 cable fro my service, it isn't connected to anything special, just the regular wire they run t the house. The only reason I have cat 5 is I had to replace the line, it was old and issue filled and I got the new cable for free frm a network guy I know

I figured out why my wife was so concerned about the internet and cable. Tonight is a pre-season game with Dallas, and a game with OSU. She is switching back and forth between those games and listening to the game from the college she worked at on an Internet broadcast on her iPad. She is in football happy place.

Did I mention she is a big football fan?

They used to say you need cat5 for anything over 10meg.

Way back in the stone ages the first network where I work was AppleTalk. Ethernet cards were very expensive back then, and was used only for sharing printers. Despite my advice to run cat 5 they put in phone wires. My office, the engineering department was the first to go to ethernet and cat 5. It was for access to our department file server and large graphic files. As the company upgraded to cat 5 at first the network separated by buildings with a burried cat 5 between them and a router at each building. Then the buildings were connected with fiber optic it was 400meg and at that time you couldn't run anything over cat 5 that fast. Now it's ALL cat 5 with 100 Gigabit connecting the buildings and 1 gigabit to all the desks.

The speeds over cat 5 now is amazing.

Talking to the tech support lady last night she was assuming I was a typical stupid user that did not understand anything about computers. She kept telling me to run the cat 5 from the modem to the router and then to my computer. I told her I can do that for a short time as a test to get things working but it needs to go from the router to my switch then to the computer. I told he my 8 port switch had to be used before I was happy.

Good Friday morning all. Three day weekend here we come!

Happy Friday!

I could use some geek help.

I posted a pic in the "911 wedding" thread but it ended up sideways although it scanned correctly. How can I rotate it or can I?

Thanks.
