Boats don't float in the mountains Jim! And for what that costs I can build our house and probably pay for the lot! Means all we'd need to live on is just food and utilities! Plus having an AZ address up in the mountains means cheap taxes, and no vehicle emissions tests!

But your house in the mountains can't take you to Hawaii when you get the urge. And think of how close you and Thuy would be to surfing.

My container house also won't sink in a storm.

We had a neighbor that you could smell her perfume as you walked by her house in the spring and fall with her windows open.

Sid, if you go big enough, those containers will fit on the boat.

For the price of some of those tiny homes, I would buy a nice 5 year old diesel F-250 and then get a nice 5 year old used 35" fifth wheel to pull and still have money left over to eat steak every night. You can go anywhere you want with this outfit with no permits like a tiny house requires to move. Buy yourself a plot of ground out in the country and set up shop, or keep moving to different areas.......far more square footage, and absolutlly oppulant.

Get off my lawn!

My great Aunt and Great Uncle lived in Portland, Oregon and raised two kids and saw both kids get married and move away to other parts of the country.
They sold everything, bought a few acres of land in a rural area and had the utilities hooked up to a motor-home. They only stayed in Oregon long enough each year to claim it as a permanent residence. They went through motor homes, and trailers. He decided the best bet was a F-350 pickup and a goose-neck hitch. They can drive to the grocery store and not have to bring the house. They could get a new pickup and not have to change the trailer. They went as far south as the Panama canal and as far north as Barrow Alaska. They traveled for 30 years before they had to give it up. In all that time they never had a regular house again. They would just park the vehicle on the pad at "home" in Oregon and live it it all the time. Since there was nothing left behind except the utility connections and a concrete pad they did not worry about the property when gone.

I could go for the gypsy lifestyle, as long as I broke it up with significant periods of being at my stationary home.

After they sold the motor home because he did not feel he could drive it safely anymore they started traveling to Europe and just stayed in nice hotels. He said the operational cost of a motor-home is high enough that staying in motels seems cheap.
They did have a very nice rig.

For travel we will get some sort of RV. Likely an airstream behind a pickup. I've been around RVs a ton, and they are not the best built for permanent living. Their plumbing is funky, and I've yet to use one that I could take an enjoyable shower in. I'm a tall dude, and ducking to get my hair wet pisses me off! |

My idea of a camper is a hotel with slow wi-fi and no nearby beer supply and poor AC and a crappy place to park my car. The horrors!

Just don't ever take a black light to a hotel/motel room you are planning to stay in. It just might really gross you out.

Evening Y'all
Beth wants to buy a meth lab (AKA Travel camper) and just see as much of the world as we can drive to. I like the idea but there are a few things I could not simply leave behind, the arsenal and my guitars.

Local guy had his RV built custom for putting in things like real shower, specialty stuff storage, etc. It also fits 2 cars in the back with the rear door/wall working as a lift.
