I would have to look up the number of devices, not computers, that have an IP.

What I was asking about wireless access points were if you had an access point on each end of the house or if all the wireless comes of the access point built into the router. We have to have a second access point to get enough coverage in our house and if the second one is not set up properly it can cause issues with sharing devices as it moves from one access point to another.

I just have to one router and it is here in the office. My garage is at the other corner of the house and the 5 GHz signal reaches the garage OK for the old iPad I use to listen to Pandora. I have my router 7 feet in the air on top of the cabinets attached to the back of the desk I sit at. The signal in the garage is weak, but does fine for streaming music.

Mrs Carrera has an iPad that she uses all the time. She is in the living room or bedroom and it get a full strength signal. It is spooky when she uses the printer on my desk. It just comes to life and prints something she wanted to print from her iPad.

OK. That isn't the cause any of these issues then.

I counted in my head. We have 13 computers and two more on the way from the school that will be just for schoolwork. Gotta have a few for guests during LAN parties.

What I meant by 1 base and 2 wireless bridges is I have a 3 access points. Only the one Base in the center is connected to the wired network. The other two bases are at each end of the house. They are set to extend the network. That means they connect wireless to the base and share the same network ID. They even let the base dole out the dhcp. Don't know if they use different channels or what. Just know my laptop has less bars and is slower without the bridge. Turn on the bridge sitting next to it and the bridge itself gets a much better connection to the base. And my laptop gets as good of a connection as if sitting next to the base. Have run all kinds of tests sending files etc. and a bridged connection just as fast as laptop being next to base.

I could connect the bridged routers to the base with wire. But don't really see the need. That is the way I setup my Nephews big house with lots of kids. Put a main base in the middle and wired bridges at each of the 3 corners. It worked great. They all had the same network name. The base was feeding it's wireless and the three wired to it's wired internet connection.

I am making it sould much more complicated that it actually is.

Repeaters work well for a lot of situations. We had the cable already so we went with a wired access point instead of a repeater. If you are gaming you can run into latency issues with a repeater but for our LAN parties we use all wired connections.

My question was for Glen since having multiple access points and moving around can cause issues on the hand-off if they are not set up correctly. He has only one so that isn't the issue.

Yea, only the one access point and I don't move around except to rotate in my chair. The two computers are both hooked up to a Cat 6 cable plugged into the same switch. The goofy thing is one computer only gets 100MB and the other gets a full gigabit speed and everything is the same and both have gigabit cards. It does not seem to be an issue as far as I can tell for speed. With just the traffic of two computers there is no traffic issues. The laptop is wireless only but it is not here that often. We prefer it to be in the airplane recording the images and GPS location of each image. It also records the information from the IMU.

I have thought about using a different cable for the slow one, but I have to lay on the floor and use a flashlight to see the port. The switch is in a cabinet and it would not be too difficult but I just don't think it makes much difference. The next time I move that computer out to clean up the dust I will replace the cable just to see if it changes anything.

Yea!

The finally sent a Cox employee with the proper test equipment, and the right knowledge and intelligence to fix the issue. At least for now we are back in full operation. He took out one of the two splinters that were in place and replaced on of the splinters that was wrong. I sure did not put them on, it was another installer.

He knew just what to do, and replace the tuning adapter and it lock in and is happy.

Cox had sent me a survey after the first three guys made visits out. I was rather um HONEST in my evaluation of the service provided, or lack of service and knowledge. The last guy was happy to help and very pleasant and most important of all, he got all the channels to work.

The thought did occur to me to put on some Prodigy and point my Bose speakers across the street. But then I'd be a cock (and a have a very grumpy missus). Other morning noises are getting louder and his 5hitty music is becoming part of it.
