If I can help it, I won't buy from Canadian online vendors in that area. Selling things to that area its best to get paid up front.

Getting paid can take going to court if they feel they don't need a second order from you. What you did with that second order is right, get paid first.

Yikes! That's too damn cold! We're going to be in the low-to-mid 70s today. If there's a little wind, we'll be out sailing Pete. You're welcome to join us!

Yea, from the start we got the "big hat no cattle" vibe from them. We were all going to make big money and be rich if we just help them along. We got some money from them and then they stopped paying. We stopped flying. We had a signed contract but that is useless when the company is a invest bank with a team of lawyers on staff. We could spend way more than what was owed on legal fees for a NYC lawyer.

It was not a huge amount but when we are a startup it hurt. Now we get to make them pay up front, and today a nice deposit is supposed to show up. Before we send on byte of data that payment will be in our account.

I mentioned in the voice assistants thread that I have two wireless networks at home, one for important stuff (computers, pads, phones) and one for Internet of thingies. Right now, I have my video streaming Roku thingie and the google home thingie on the IoT network. I have a border router connected to my cable modem, and two wireless routers connected to the border router. Are there some smart(er) things I could be doing for improved network security? Thanks guys!

Does your router allow VLANs?

That reminds me, I need to turn off "ET Net" my guest network with no password since ET has gone home.

I have a public wired network for my servers and a private wired/wireless network, Homey, that uses an Airport as the router. The airport lets me put up a guest network as well. Don't have a password on my guest network, ET Net. I only turn it on when Bob visits. Not telling what kind of virus or malware he has on his laptop.

I have TV and AppleTV and Receiver that are on my private network with my Laptop, iPad, Iphone, Printer scanner etc. My thermostat is wireless to the local electric company, but only receives peak signals from the mother company. Have to monkey with the settings on the wall.

Or that come from their mothership!

Opps, can't shut down ET NET. The old lady company board member and her live-in care giver that live in the house directly behind me have their iPads on it. Thought she had her own internet. Will have to go talk to them.

So AT&T is installing ProPlus internet to my house Tuesday. It's 50/10 and I get 5 useable fixed IPs. They only guarantee 2 hour or less service outage. It is $55/mo. Currently paying $150/mo with Cox Cable the only difference being 1 hour or less outage guarantee.

AT&T has never offered an upload speed that high or fixed IPs. They do not offer anything any faster. with Cox I can to up to 100/20 or 150/25 with each bump up another $50/mo.

Am I going to regret using AT&T?

Only had a couple of problems with Cox, but they did resolve it quickly. That $95/mo difference is pretty big? That will pay for my health insurance increase this year. But at least I was able to add Pepper (the dog) to my health insurance. Includes shots, and stuff like heartworm/flea/tic meds. Think it was even pay for getting her spayed.

Cox says their connection will only be down 1 hour or less. per incident. AT&T only guarantees a 2 hour response time.

Richard, be sure to get a written contract from them on the price. I have heard of stories of the price being much higher that quoted and no resolution. Have them quote the tax included price. Usually they quote just the service and don't mention any taxes. And the speed is not what was promised. Make sure they put it in writing. price and performance and for how long. They love to hit you after 6 months with the "oh that was the introductory only price" Now it is more. Don't rely on a verbal commitment. Get it in writing.

It's gotta meet the upload speed or no deal. But on the web they do seem to have some home business conenctions listed now that have the speeds they promise AND the static IPs. The prices quoted on the web is $80/mo instead of $55/mo. The web does not have ANY upload speed information only download and doesn't say how much their static IPs cost.

This is supposed to be a 1 year contract that is re-negotiable price wise every year. Am definately make sure the contract is void if they don't meet the minimum network speeds and get THAT in writing.

At work our office365 hosting was originally with att. The problems we had was with the contractors trying to milk us that were doing the migration from on-site to on-line and my superiors letting them. The service itself did what they said and actually had less performance issues than the hosting we have now with Microsoft itself.

Just kinda worried because att has never offered business insternet at my home before. It has always been to sell UVERSE with no static IPs. This guy claims there are 3 people in the neighborhood that have the business connection and static IPs. He also had two people with him that he was training. They all actually left then came back when I started asking about upload speeds and static IPs and whether their static IPs were in their dynamic IP range or not.

Have had issues all weekend with my Streaming TV. Bet it was the neighbors that were accidentally using my ET Net guest network that was for Bob. Her living room and kitchen windows are line of sight to my router through my back door that I usually leave the wooden door open for Pepper. But the neighbor has her own wifi and the caregiver thought she was on her phones Hot Spot.

Told them I didn't mind them using my ET Net guest wifi. That I was just checking to see if she had wifi in her house so if I shut ET Net down they wouldn't be without wifi.

Can only guess that somehow my quest wifi had come up with a stronger or maybe less noise signal for their devices. Her care giver did seem to be pretty quick about knowing where to check/change the network settings on their iPads. Didn't check what her hot spot or the neighbors internet speed was, so maybe my 50/10 was a lot faster even at that distance. On my router my devices show 300mb/s and theirs 27mb/s.

Just Don't understand. This afternoon and evening 3 IT department people went thru closing all access to the systems and quitting all jobs. Then they run the month end processes. Then they close out everything do a complete system backup and restart everything. They do an all email to announce month-end. Then they announce to all that month-end has been completed.

Since I have been doing my nightly system watch, after they send out the month-end completed I got thru my checklist of systems. They have NEVER gotten all the systems restarted, Never.

After they annouce month-end is completed I always send whomever is doing month-end a list of the processes and servers that are not back up. The send my back a messages saying they haven't completed month-end and that they will send me a message to check the system.

Why did they send out a month-end completed if they weren't finished?

They then send me a messages saying they have completed the month-end processes and I can run my check. There are usually only half of the processes I send earlier that have been restarted. So I send the list of processes still not restarted.

They then send another all user email saying the month-end has been completed and all services are available.

I run my check and there are ALWAYS at least one or two services that daily production staff uses that have not been started after month end. I restart those services, wait and doublecheck to make sure everything is up and running, then send the IS Department a post-monthend checklist with a list of the services I had to restart to make the system production ready.

Just don't understand why the people doing the month-end processes can't do the checks I do when they restart the system and make sure everything is production ready BEFORE they announce to everyone the system is back up. Or if they are going to use me as a doublecheck to NOT announce the system is back up to EVERYONE until it as cleared my system check?

Even if it is New Years weekend there is one of two users that get on the system then submit ITHELP tickets saying they can't get into one of the systems I have just told them failed my system check after they have sent the all user month-end completed message.

I find it difficult to mentally grasp what they think they are doing announcing the system is back up when it has obviously not been checked and historically has had problems every single time.
