Oh boy, the second person where I work got their password hacked.
Both of these people are people we have let set their own passwords.

Can you set the GPO to require 18 characters?

Best practices now state that there should be no expiration. Both NIST and the euro agency have stated that.

We still do 6 months though.

When I had access to the server I checked mine as never to expire. Now I have to change it every 30 days and fight to get the wifi back up and running for my phone.

We had an issue with staff not locking their screens (HIPPA is kinda big here) when they left their computer so I told them the GPO would push out the new policy of locking the screen after 13 seconds of inactivity instead of the current 2 minute delay. Funny how they started taking responsibility for their actions.

I don't get corporate email on my phone so the wifi thing wouldn't bother me.

Ah. I use it for that too. No password issues though with our corporate or public wifi for me.

Our passwords are linked to our AS400 which is out of date password wise and does not sync well with active directory. Our current passwords are minimum of 8 characters at least one capital letter, one lower case, and one number. It can't contain any special characters and can not start with a number, and no more than 15 characters due to the limitations of our AS400.

On the password change page it tells people to try and use two 3 or 4 letter words with one capitalzied and 2 numbers. Tell them it is secure and easy to remember so they don't have to write it down. But people continue to use spouse or child name and birthday.

They have been talking about upgading the AS400s password and going to single sign on, but it has just been talk for almost 10 years now. And we also have 3 web based systems for HR Training, and project management that will not interface with AD or Azure for single signon.

The new VP of IT first started talking about going to MFA and do the password changing thing. But he has already backed off the change thing and has reduced the MFA to just certain people.

Back from flying again. It was COLD today. The airplane has a great heater but the setup on the ramp and getting ready to go and the shutdown process is COLD. This working late for a living is almost like having a job. I am gonna demand the jerk boss send more money to my account.

928 Shop called. Since I have no car had me drop it off and ubered me home. Going to have to take some stuff off to figure out what the noise is. At first thought it was heat shielding rubbing, but makes the noise out of gear stationiary just pumping the clutch pedal. Put a new clutch in just 2000 miles ago. Curious to find out what it is.

First time I've ubered. The guys car smelled too strong of downy dryer sheets. He could barely speak english, felt like he was going to tell me if I just wire him some money he could get millions out of his country. He just followed the uber GPS app, almost didn't get us out of downtown and took a really weird route. but it did avoid all the construction..

So, garage is totally vacant of vehicles. Don't even have a bicycle. All I gots that moves is a Troy Built roto-tiller and a Toro self-propelled walk behind mower. Neither go any faster that walking.

Any guesses on which Porsche will make it back to my garage first?

Good Friday morning.

I signed up for Uber for the first time this week. My trip next week means I will need transportation from the hotel to the conference and back. I get a free airport shuttle so that part is taken care of.

Back to work, I gotta get this data processed that we flew yesterday.

Good Freakin Morning Groupe

Despite the warning I sent out users are clicking on the Malware link in the email that got hacked in yesterday. They actually call me and tell me they clicked that link I told them not to. Our Network Admin did not see fit to block the malicious link in the email at our firewall like I asked him too. As a matter of fact it is still open! He says I need to block the email. I don't know how to delete an email people have already received?

The only virus or mailware we got when I made the decisions for and managed our email and firewall was from a sales user downloaded to his company laptop at home thinking it was a dirty movie. He is no longer with the company.

Proving people are suckers. I got one yesterday from one of our sister offices. Something about "docusign" I have never had any dealings with this person so I contacted her to ask if it was something I needed to deal with. I guess I should have just opened it.......

Yea, I got a suspect email the other day that had a convenient link to update my credit card information for Ebay.

Dang, I need to upgrade one of my computers. I need MORE POWER! Always need more power. It have been exporting a DEM for over an hour. Of course it is a stupid big file, but even so I want it faster! NOW NOW NOW! Dang slow computers.

It really does astonish me when I think back just a few years ago. I remember doing a "happy victory dance" when I managed to download a one MB file is ONLY 12 minutes. No we send on TB files on occasion and 500 Gig files are routine. I had gone through a many new computers before I had a computer with 500 Gig hard drives. I remember my first 10 Gig hard drive. I named it Bigun because it was so big!

We have about 38 TB of RAID storage at my partners house.

Yep, you got it, the docusign email. It's from Nigeria! It has you go to a web site that pulls your email, password, and list of email addresses (the one Outlook keeps not your address book) from Outlook. Then leaves no evidence on the computer. Then they send another docusign email using your credentials.
