Yes! Mid 80s is finally here, for a short stay. Speaking of Shorts, it is for sure a shorts day. The mean boss insisted!

Of course we are supposed to have yet another freeze this weekend.

I am sick of winter hanging on. Let spring begin. It will be just a few days and then bam summer.

You can take winter out behind the barn and beat the living %$#% out of her if I was in charge.

Morning all.

Ouch ouch ouch.

I went ahead and set up my estimated income taxes for this quarter. Right now with a new company we are spending lots on computers and software and other expenses of running a business. Our "draw" or salary is not that much but we see the potential. Right now we are pretty much at the level we made when "working for da man" for income. I suspect in reality my personal taxes are just about the same as the last few years. It is just more painful to see a lump sum payment.

always hurts......the wife is a partner in a law firm so I know what fun you are having. Their weird schedule of draws and payouts causes great writers cramp all four quarters.

It was all done with just electrons. No trees died in our tax payments. But lots of clicking of the mouse. My wife spent a few days beating on a spreadsheet, and then the company CPA blessed it as accurate. One the congress of the USA can conceive of such a complex set of rules that change constantly and in illogical ways. And the really stupid thing is my partner and I are 50-50 partners, so the taxable amount is exact equal. My business partner is single, and I am of course married. Because of only that difference in martial status he pays $650 bucks more per quarter. WTF, why is martial status even on a tax form? The tax rate should be the same rate for men, women, white, black, transgender, straight, single, married, good looking or ugly.

A bunch of year ago I did some calculations. For a single person to live comfortably was $50K. That was a nice house, car, clothes, eating. typical entertainment, etc. without having to worry about money. I called it the comfort level of Income. Because of the shared expenses adding a spouse did not double the required income, it increased it to $70K to maintain the same level of living. And that included a 2nd car. And kids added about $7K each.

So YES! Taxing single people more is ridiculous if not unfair to single people.

When looking for a house most were in the $169-200K range. Was making good money for a manager herE in OKC and couldn't come near spending that much. Asked my relator how those people could afford those houses. She said, simple, they are in debt up to their eyeballs and despite appearances are struggling to make their minimum payments..

Oklahoma does a lot of screwy things, but we got some of them right. Our DVM is there, but to get tags, registration, driver's license and so on we have a private enterprise system. A tag agent is withing a few miles of most people, and I can go to a long list of different agents and get my tag or whatever in a few minutes. Usually in and out within 5 minutes. And the tag is $25 bucks.

I could possibly use AAA for this, but the seller did something screwy...let the registration lapse for 16 years. CA will certainly want $$$ for making this right. I negotiated a lower price based on this. Still, I think AAA might have a problem dealing with that so I’m suffering through the DMV experience. Whoopie.

Yeah, if it is an unplanned lapse then it is a pain in the butt, but the right person at the DMV will straighten it all out and you pay a bunch of extra money for not having it registered during the lapse.

Yeah, the knucklehead could’ve registered it as non-op and paid a pittance in registration fees. But noooooo....

Yea, ago the the tags in OK were insane high. One of my PCA friends had a 67 911S that he had completely restored, and had a hot S engine built. We all called it the light switch, because it would rev up like a F1 car. It took three years to get it all finished. He had to go to the tag agency and explain why it had been off the road and un-tagged for so long. He told them he had it restored. The lady behind the counter had a real attitude and told him unless he could show "substantial" repair bills he would have to pay the back fees and penalties. He was prepared, and handed he a folder of the repair ticket, and a work sheet with the grand total.

He said the lady almost fainted. She did say, lord, that is more then my house cost! He qualified for the exemption and got a new tag for normal cost. It was one of those rare cars that would be worth a fortune now.

Well, home can be over rated......

My wife started calling out for me to come quick, there was someone in the back yard knocking on the door. Say what?

So I go look and the rain water barrel is blowing around. It is a little breezy here today with 26 to 35 MPH gusts. The 55 gallon barrel (empty now) was blowing around. No people, no danger. Just a big empty barrel blowing around. I fixed it by putting a few gallons of city water in the thing to hold it in place. We may well have another freeze, but it will not be an issue for the barrel. We empty it for winter since it is not needed in the winter. It is hooked up and if we ever get rain again, it will fill up quickly.
