That's what, 2 1/2 times the cost of a Ruger Single Six .22?
A Ruger Single Six will last 10 lifetimes of men and is accurate as a laser. All you're paying for when you buy the colt is.....i don't know. |

With examples of various Colts and Rugers (and a number of other single actions) on hand, I would take the Ruger even if the Colt was the same price. The Ruger is a vastly superior gun in every aspect but finish. I love my Colts, but I use my Rugers.

The name recognition, and history associated with. Not to mention the fit and finish.

I need a single action of some sort. I've only owned 2, both in .44 Magnum. One was a Virginia Dragoon .44 with 8" bbl and stainless finish, and the other was an absolutely beautiful unfluted 8 1/2" Ruger Blackhawk with an exquisite super high blue finish, mag-na-porting and a redfield red dot sight.
I really liked that gun, i should probably get another one. I really don't have any sort of a serious big game hunting weapon at all. I have stuff that would work in a pinch because i have the right kind of ammo, but none of my weapons are chambered in calibers that are made for that sort of thing at all. |

Paul you are the first and only..... That said, I feel like an @sshole now because I mentioned the possible sale to my wife and she did not take it well. She has shot it maybe 2 times in 10 years, but it must have some sort of sentimental value to her (it was her deceased first husbands). I am REALLY REALLY sorry, but I am going to have to retract my offering of it for sale.... It is not worth risking a fight with the wife over.
![]() Should she change her mind in a few days and tell me to go ahead and sell it, you will be the first to know Paul.

There is some confusion surrounding these guns. Interarms imported a "Virginian" made in Switzerland by Hammerli for some time in the early '70's. This one was the same size as a Colt or early Blackhawk, and was one hell of a gun in its own right. I had one for awhile in .45 Colt (what else?), but found just a couple of things about it that I didn't care for, and let it go. The "Virginian Dragoon" was manufactured in Midland, Virginia. It is a much larger gun, about the size of the Super Blackhawk, as it was originally intended for the .44 mag. As an aside, this remains the only handgun produced in a former Confederate state since the "War of Northern Aggression" as they like to call it. If you can find one of these in .44 mag, grab it. I think it's a better gun than the Super Blackhawk.

No worries, Tim. I was going to drive out...I've got some business in Dayton in a few week and I prefer the 7 hour drive rather than the 7 hour airport goat-rope.
Just let me know. Use my business email. All the best. Quote:

It it works out with Tim, the Colt is for my Dad...he already owns an old Colt Officers Model and I thought this would be a great x-mas gift. He shoots with his buddies, mostly for the companionship.
I'm looking at Rugers this weekend. Your knowledge of guns has been an excellent source for me. Thanks.

After following this thread I started looking at 22s and wanted everything mentioned here but today I bought the Browning Buckmark. It has the little green bead sight and I think for me it will work. I liked them all but can't have everything so this is it. I won't get it until the 6th of October but the indoor range is close so I will get to test it out. Lots of paper work and I had to take the silly test to buy a handgun here.
