An unidentified attorney for Letterman subsequently took the evidence to the prosecutor's office, which set up an undercover sting at a hotel. Three additional meetings took place, which were recorded by the attorney under the guidance of New York police detectives. On Sept. 30, Halderman was presented with a phony check for $2 million, which he deposited in his bank account.

i dont get it.. which is worse of a crime... cheating on a girlfriend or extortion?? so what.. most of everybody has cheated at one time or another.. not to turn this into a political reply but JFK cheated on his wife numerous times.. so did clinton... oh and brad pitt and on and on and on.... but nothing really happened to those people.. what they need to do is prosecute the extorter.. i say take it to judge milian... shes pretty hot..... not judge judy as she hates men... LOL..

______________ Maybe the reason Letterman had to reveal all of this is because there's more to the story than just having sex with your staff. Publicity-wise, he probably did the right thing by telling the story himself. Maybe there was coercion or sexual harrassment involved or maybe the women who said no were never promoted. Maybe his involvement(s) created a hostile work environment. I just think there is something more to this. But Letterman need not worry. I'm sure he and his family will be shown the same privacy and sympathy that he showed Sarah Palin's un-wed teenage daughter.

NY law is pretty clear on this stuff, if you hold a supervisory role over (staff)subordinates(loosely defined) and you are diddling the any staff member or engaged in sexual harrassment, you definitely have a problem with the law(civil or criminal, depending on what transpired). I bet Dave is in a race to pay off the objects of his affection.
